Oh me too, I read about his new movie a while ago. I like his movies. He always has interesting endings.

imho hes a great suspense thriller writer.. probably the best at this time. he can make so much happen and keep our interest when realistically there is not much going on. just a great filmmaker. with films such as "the six sense" and "signs" under his belt this one is probably going to be very good as well.

No props for "Unbreakable"? I thought it was better than "The Sixth Sense," easy.

I'm not sure if any of you have noticed or not, but in all of Shymalan's films so far, there's always a shot where a character or something important is refelcted in or through a television screen (Mr. Glass as a child in "Unbreakable", the alien in "Signs", etc). This symbol represents his take on "media reflecting reality," something he somewhat borrowed from Hitchock (see "North by Northwest").

Anyway, after seeing this preview, it occured to me that the time setting is rather ambiguous; it looks like it takes place in the past, although it could simply be a rural area of the modern world. In either case, there might not be a television in the whole movie. What do you guys think? Will he abandon his symbol here or will he work it in somehow....?

I'm a big fan of symbolism in film, and I think it's great when directors have a repeated symbol that the include in all their works (another one who does this besides Shymalan would be Japanese film/animation director Mamoru Oshii). So, I'd be kind of dissapointed if Shymalan left it out of this one. Then again, if he did leave it out, maybe it would represent a change of his opinion on the issue....? I guess we'll just have to wait and see....

can't wait for this one either. I really enjoy M. Knights films, and this one looks like it won't dissappoint. As for the rest of his films I think unbreakable stands out on top. When everything came together in that film I was blown away. As stated above, he is the best suspense writer out there now. great stuff.

It's not just the writing -- you can't *write* tension like that. You have to direct and edit it -- and the scoring plays a pretty major role, too.

Well, we shall see if he is trying to use the same "cookie cutter" for this film as 6th sense or Signs.

M.Night is like an original Tarantino! *;D
Not to many films under his belt, but his style is very much his own.

I can't really say I like all his movies, but can still appreciate them for the storytelling and the acting ability of the characters in his films. *They are all top notch!

The Village looks like it'll be interesting :)

I'm a fan of M. Night and like his work a lot (esp. "Unbreakable"); he's a good filmmaker. However, for whatever reason it irritates me that he calls himself "Night," which is not even close to being his real name. But then, lots of celebs alter their names, so whatever. ::)

"Hmmmm . . . let's see. What cool name should I just start calling myself for no reason? Hmmmm . . . "

45 Minutes into Unbreakable and M. Knight just told me to "Stay Tuned" as he will show me 7 and a half minutes of his new film....

"Stay Tuned" huh. What do you suppose that means? Another friggin hour?

J.R. Hudson

Finally saw the 7 and a half minutes of The Village. Opens with typical M Knight opening, production company, blinding edge pictures and then titles on red.

It was obviously not linear in presentation but 7 and a half of choice footage. It looks great. It looks different than anything Night has done thus far yet felt familar.

Phoenix looks kicks ass as does Brody. William Hurt is in it but he never impressed me; boring actor. It looks 'scarier' than his other films, darker; playing on the WOODS and such.

Cant wait to see it! :D

Random thought: Found out his real first name:

Manoj

Manoj Nettiyalu Shyamalan (Night is a literal translation of his middle name)

At least he didn't totally make up "Night" if it's a literal translation. I still get to go by Big LuLu Wolfenhammer, though!
