View Full Version : What's a good/cheap DSLR to buy my wife...so she leaves my GH13 ALONE!

Hi guys,

I've recently discovered the amazing gh13 and now have a major dilemma - my wife keeps wanting to borrow it! Normally it would be fine, but since the warranty probably won't be honoured if something goes wrong, and since the hackable units are getting harder to find, I want to get her her own DSLR (am I bad?)

She doesn't seem to be concerned about video so I was thinking the Canon 1000D might be good? It's on sale here in Oz for 880 with the twin lens kit (18-55 and 55-250).

Any recommendations for a decent sub-grand camera, preferably with a good zoom lens?

My GF liked my GH1 so much she got a GF1.

$229 G1 body + 14-45 lens :-)

Other option is $630 Pentax K-x twin lens kit (18-55mm and 55-300mm).
K-x is much much better than Canon 1000D or even 450D-500D.

Lumix G2 body-only so you can share lenses.

I think the g1 is the way to go ;)

In this case buy also FD-m43 adapter and any good 28mm lens.
Or share 20mm if you have it :-)

LOL... I love this threads title.

I agree about the G1 or GF1 for lens swapping -- I'm personally tempted by the Panasonic L1, though, because the body's super cheap and the Leica kit lens looks gorgeous.

I just bought the LX5 for me...uh I mean as my wife's family camera. :) She'll do great with it. I'll get a "pocketable" manual control video mode, 720/30p only though. :( But...I have a feeling that I'll be using it alot. :)

Totally, it makes a good excuse to get a new camera to play with, doesn't it? With that in mind, I'd probably splurge and get the GF1, just because it's fun and more distinct from GH1 than the G1 is.

G1 or Nikon D40 or something like that.

Just ordered a fd adapter and fd zoom lens, thanks! Yes, will share my 20mm with her, but not my gh13

Thanks for all that you've done Vitaliy.

I gladly give my wife my 7D. It keeps her attention away from my more expensive toys.
