I'm going to be doing some stop motion, or "claymation" with my DVXa, does anyone know of any optimal settings they would like to reccomend?

you should just play with your settings and whatever look or setting you come across that looks good then go with that. Experiment, it could look nice with anything. ;D

Does the DVX have this feature?

You can do stop motion with the DVX but I would highly recommend using a digital camera instead. The DVX can not grab a single frame. It must grab a minimum of... I think it's 15 frames. Therefore, it's more work in post to cleanup.

Once you capture all of your images, pull them into your NLE as a filmroll.

I would look around for software to do the capturing for you, and bybass shooting to tape completely. I wish I could remember some of the names, but a google search will find you a few. Basically, you plug the camera's firewire into the computer, and the software looks through the camera. The advantage of this over a still camera is you get to see the shot frame by frame, and most can lay them out in a preview for you.

DV Rack has a feature called DV Grabber, looks like it dumps the image into JPG, BMP or PNG formats.
