I know this sort of thing should probably be in the screen grabs/clips section, (and will probably be moved, I'm sure!), but I put this post here because I figure the 'experts' would be in this forum(!)
I was wondering if anyone has blown up a house/person/car/anything in post using Particle Illusion, After Effects, or anything for a film, and if so, why not post a grab/clip here and tell us HOW you did it?
I'm afraid I'm not up to scratch on this sort of thing, so can't get the ball rolling!! :-[

.. i blew up a toy boat. it was my daughters noahs ark from the little people playset. ..it was for a silly little short spoof my wife and i did. the boat went off the edge of a table, and blewup, and i keyed the explosion in on another video layer, and masked around all the objects in the forground in AE to put the explsion behind them . if i had timei wouldve color corrected the shot/layers to light up from the explosion. and done a better job of placing and timing the explosion, but i was in a hurry and didnt care too much..it was small and quick, but funny and effective.

hah, it was prety funny, but the methods i described would work for pretty much anything. particle illusion effects dont really look that great or real when they are not blurred, lightly used, blended smoothly, or very quickly shown . but if you show it breifly, and add a little motion blur to the layer, as well as some gaussian blur and other little touches, the explosion effects can look pretty convincing.
