Hey folks,

I just got a copy of Color Finesse and still without extensive testing I have to say I am really impressed. The options are great and still leave me kinda lost. I kinda want to use all o fthem ;) . The secondary color correctors are great and the limiting with 4 sampling tones is great. It still take a lot more time to render than FCP's native CC tools, wich is a bretty lame downside.

I kinda opened this topic because I wanted to share some experiences with the other color finesse users out there, and I'd like to start with a question: due to the big difference in render times, is there a difference in quality from FCP's regular CC tools and Color Finesse? Should I use CF only when I need it's more acurate controls or is there a really difference in the quality of the algorythm?

Thanks, I'm very interested in your takes on this matter...

so.. uh, are you doing a special effect or stunt with color finesse?

...anyway i have it.. it came with AE pro 1.5, and its nice for doing some pretty needy CC... as in somethig requireing alot of intelligent processing. i dont use it too often , but it is nice.

Yeah, well, I liked it a lot.

The thing is: I know for instance that FCP's CC tools work in 10-bit YUV to enhance the quality of the effects processing without adding too much of DV artifacting. I was curious to how CF works and if the generation loss were even lower from using the software. From the large renders that's what I take. If that's the case, I'm probably going to adopt it from all my CC work, if not, I'll keep it to when I really need it's power.

Blue,

The site is awesome. Pretty incredible work!

BTW, they are liked to the color finesse website, that says CF works in 32-bit floating point. Now I have absolutely no idea what's the diference from 8-bit integrer, or 10-bit YUV, so, I'm still pretty much clueless...

taubkin: CF processes in a 16bit floating point color space I believe so you are getting a significant improvement by going that route. If all you need is to tint a scene then just the FCPs tools but for anything else I would go with CF.
