I was wondering how I could create the illusion of having an object (i.e. a person) moving in slow motion, while the surrounding objects around the person are moving in fast motion.

Also, I forgot to mention that I am looking for a solution that does not require the use of a greenscreen. Yes, I know that this will make things more difficult... but I am curious about other methods.

okay you just took out my first answer. Well , I guess the practical way. Just have your subject walk and move very very very, well you get the point slow. Make sure everyone around your subject is moving faster than normal. It should make the effect look better. Then just take it to post and apply a ghosting filter to it and just hope it looks right. Of course the best method is to bluescreen. I don't know any other way of doing it right.

edit: a friend of mine tried this method and she got it to look pretty good. Try not to blink, you will notice. Hope this helps.

Cool, I was thinking about that idea as well. I guess sometimes the most logical solution can be the best. Thanks for your input, I'll try it out.

I would just have your subject move extremely slow and everyone else move at normal speed. In post just speed up the shot so everyone around your subject has normal motion but moves extremely fast. If you have them move around faster than normal their body language will show that they are trying to move faster than normal.
