The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is roughly 1000 feet higher in elevation and receives only 10% of the visitors seen by the South Rim.

Nice video, but given that you have an HMC40, why get the Panasonic HDC-TM700?
Also, it would be interesting to see a side by side video of the two cameras.
Let's see, according to Mapquest, "Total Travel Estimate: 6 hours 12 minutes / 399.83 miles" drive to Scottsdale, Arizona. It's so tempting to make the drive.... and I'll bet my Smart Car could make it on one tank of gas too... :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

I think your Smart Car would enjoy the drive Bob, and since gas stops are a little scarce in northern Arizona it would have the advantage.
Weight, size and wider lens were the draw of the TM700 for me. My total camera + tripod weight is now under 3lb. Since I'm usually carrying my gear for miles, it's a good thing.
Though I haven't done official comparisons, I perceive the TM700 video (1080/60p) equal to the HMC40, low-light performance slightly better with the TM700, and still images much better with TM700. However, mileage may vary for others.
Thanks for watching.

Nice video Dan. How did you get those nice smooth mini zooms? Did you do it in post or use the camera?
