I shot a music video and things didn't go the way I planned as far as the concept the shots are good lighting good shot in 24p. *What I want to know is there a way to allow pictures (jpegs) to disslove behind the artist performing. *

I'll try to make sense. *The artist is performing the artist sees pictures and clips appearing then dissapearing beind on the side, bottom etc... *with out seeing an acutal black box (out line of the picture just the subject) if you understand

Not exactly sure what you’re going for here. You want pictures to appear around the artist, but without outlines of the pictures? You don’t want them to be square shaped? Or you want them to blend in the background so they can move behind the artist?

For the first you can use the picture in picture effect, but they would be floating 2D pics so there would be outlines of a sort.

For the second I believe your only option is to green screen. Which apparently it is too late for.

Sorry if I misunderstood the question.

ok..well i use Vegas 5.0...i duno ne thing bout Final Cut..soo heres how u could do it in Vegas...

if im picturing this right..u dont want the box outline right? would it be just a simple feathered edge?

Beizer mask the objects in the pictures then feather them a little bit to make it blend.

then you would want to do this wen you want the pics to go behind the person...beizer mask the frames at which point the floating pic goes behind the guy..cut around the man.

then you can go crazy with the 3D Track Motion tools and make them spin around the guy.

hopefullly i visioned wat you were thinking of..and that these short instructions helped out in some way.

if you really dont understand me..ill make a really short tutorial. if you want.

Create a matte (alpha channel) in Photoshop that has soft edges. You can do this by setting large feather amount for the marquee selection tool and then save selection once you're set. Save photo in Photoshop format or other format with alpha support (not JPEG) Other option is to create soft matte in your editing program or just create a black & white matte same as above but fill in black and use in editing program.

This will make you're images soft around the edges.
If the images don't overlap the actor just overlay them over your actor video and resize and place them so they're off to one side. Set fade in, fade out transitions.

If you want them behind your actor you'll need to pull a matte (is background one color or white or black?) or just create a rotoscope (cutting matte/path around the actor). Set this to feather a lot if your editing program supports it.
If the actor doesn't move much and you like the feather look you may not have to roto each frame.
In this case the still are the bottom video layer and the actor the top layer.
