Aside from what seemed like moments of sloppy direction (production was rushed?) it had moments of greatness. Now, I know the reviews are mostly negative, but for a summer blockbuster it fits the bill. Had tons of action, good looking people, and an overall "mojo". I loved the deliberate look of the cinematography, it gave it the feel of a classic movie, closer to Ben Hur than Gladiator. Overall, I loved it!

Thoughts?

Troy was indeed awesome. Brad Pitt played a terrifically likeable Achilles. Sean Bean's role as Odysseus was another pleasant surprise.

Some great moments of cinematography and some really bad ones strangely enough. Keep an eye out for a particularly fast, almost snap, zoom...

Fight scenes were amazing. Sex scenes hot. Overall, it indeed did have a Mojo.

A truly romantic movie.

Another movie I still need to catch, a cool thing I noticed was the new fighting style of "jump thrusts" sword play. I want to see more than the half a second they show in the trailers! Was this good guys?

I know that *I* loved it! The action scenes were choreographed.....awesomely! :P

It was just a really fun flick, definitely worth catching! As Thinspirit said, it's a truly romantic movie, in the traditional sense. A great blockbuster...

I was totally into it. It was a very good movie. I think Brad Pitt carried it alot though. It's pretty long too, but I didnt find myself looking at my watch once. ;D

Pitt definitely was the best part about the movie...Achilles kicks ass!

..i liked it. the fight scenes were good.. not really the big battle scenes,, cause i sat there like blah blah .. more of this.. but the one on one fights were pretty cool. the showdown between achilles and hector was very cool. i was on the edge of my seat. one of the conflicting things about the film was the fact that you felt sincerely for both sides of the batle at times. i really liked that. anyhow it was good.

Ive never been a huge fan of BRad Pitt and never understood the hype (although he was cool in Se7en, Fight Club and the small cameo in True Romance). Other projects he has done I just wondered "What is the big deal?"...

Ill give him that last chance for TROY because my initial response upon his casting was "Really? Brad Pitt?"

He's actually quite good in Troy...he has the perfect blend of cockiness and awesomeness :P

Will be interesting to see how the characters are portrayed v. their personalities in "The Iliad." In it, Achilles was a prima donna whom no one was sorry to see die, whereas Hektor was the true hero -- though not by the Greek ideas of heroism at the time . . .

I'd say that they portrayed the characters like that (though I've heard much in the film has been changed from "The Iliad." *To be fair, they didn't say it was The Iliad, they said it was "Troy")

Achilles was a Prima Donna type, but you do feel kinda bad when he dies, but mainly because he's cool * :P

Purists however, who want the movie to be 100% true to The Iliad, will most likely be unhappy. But I liked it!

hello,

i enjoyed the movie for it's entertainment value but there were parts in the movie i felt the cinematography lost it's continuity.

the overall look wasn't as polished or cool as gladiator but troy was polished except the initial large battle scene where pitt makes his first appearance and similar settings thoughout the movie (large exterior battle scenes) the production value looked amaturish to me but only during the fight scenes.

the rest of the movie i thought was consitent regarding it's cinematography.

did anyone sense that or am i being picky.

There *was* that cheesey zoom into Odysseus...WTF was that??

Hector vs Achilles rocked, for me best part bar none of the film. The rest of it was a yawner for me. Saw so many huge epic fight scenes in Lord of the Rings that it's something thats becoming blaw. All I kept thinking was kick that dumb broad out of your city, and smack your kid/prince upside the head for being such a selfish idiot. Curious - did Hector and Helen have something going on, cuz if they didn't that scene where he looked over to her before going outside the gate was very unnecessary.

AH, Finally saw it. really good.

I agree with all the above statements.

"There *was* that cheesey zoom into Odysseus...WTF was that?? "

We totally caught that! It was horrible, The Shield camera man must have been on set, that show loves that zoom ::)

"Curious - did Hector and Helen have something going on"
No, that look was her attempt at an apology, she was the cause for all this, and now hes about to die, because of her.

Overall a great movie.

P.S. Pissed because I came in late and only caught the end of the Oceans Twelve trailer! I loved Oceans Eleven.

Oceans 12 trailer showed nothing but titling, didn't miss anything. I think that it's being filmed now, won't see real trailers for a bit.

Good call on the Helen explaination makes good sense.

Nothing but titling! MAN thanks, I was about to go back and ask if I could just watch the trailer without paying!

Anybody notice in Troy, Hector tells his men to turn the boat around and says a couple times We're going back...and the next thing you know, they're having a welcome home parade?
They explained it...sortof...Hector says something like I couldn't kill my brother. Last one sorry :)

How about the spear, through the shield, behind the neck stance!! Pitt rocked that fight.
