A friend of mine brought up an interesting question so I am posting here because I have no idea.

If your shooting with a HD camera and using the latest FCP HD version when you go to export your project. Do you need a HD DVD player that will deliver 1080i resolution outside of the Combo Super drive on say a MAC G5? He wasn't sure if there was a HD DVD player that could deliver 1080i yet on the market. He has seen some that have 750 lines of resolution.

I'm not sure if you need it. But one does exist.

*Note: I know nothing about Big Band Electronics, or it's practices. It just came up on Google when I did a search for a HD DVD that runs 1080i.

$275 that's it? I figured something like that being close to a $1,000

That's what I was expecting too. Which again, is why I say that I know nothing of that store. Maybe try to find it that you know is reputable? Like Amazon or B&H.

Currently, in order to meet the majority of consumer DVD players, you'd need to conform to the DVD-spec.

Note that most films are mastered in HD before being encoded for a standard DVD.

There isn't even a standard for hi-def content in convenient disc form, is there? (Last I heard, the two forerunners were still duking it out.)

Seems like the best option is still "ordinary" DVD for final output, especially for distribution to others. I guess it depends on where/how it'll be viewed.
