I'm looking for a futuristic type of rifle. Similar to the ghostbusters, sans photon backpack. I would prefer that it doesn't look all that militaristic. Could someone out their point me in the right directions?

Yeah, take a walk through the water-and-foam and toy guns sections of your local toy stores. There's all manner of stuff that can be nicely finished to work on-screen.

Thanks!! Nice call. I can grab like five of them and experiment with the paint. Then use them all on the production.

get a metallic paint as an unde coat then give it a dusting of black. the metal shows through and it looks dirty, "worn"

And like Airsoft guns, you can also mod nerf guns. Do a google search on Nerf gun modding.

i built the top and bottom guns using nerf guns and assorted plumbing and do-dads.
the others we're made from a vacum and an old replica flintlock pistol.

I'd love to see a youtube "how to" video. Steampunk for the win.

heres a coupla closer shots of ''the argonaut'', a fire breathing dragon commissioned by h.g. wells for use while abroad through time.

so back to the original poster, if you want a backpack mounted weapon, an alice pack is a good platform to start with and they can be had cheap at most thrift stores.

Thanks for the detail shots on the pistol. May I have your permission (should the occasion arise) to show these pics to my prop master and say like this!?

Nerf guns are great since they already have that futuristic look to them. I'm using one (EBF-25) for my short film. I've already painted it primer grey and it looks great. If you have modeling and DIY skills you can add parts and gizmo's to one for that particular look you might need.
