hi:

i have been editing in avid dvx100 footage, it is 25p PAL. Now for the NTSC dvd i want to create the mpeg. I tried with basic settings in procoder2 and there is some noticeable ghosting.

i heard you can create a 24 ntsc version, is this good? how to do it?

which are the best settings for this conversion from 25p to ntsc?

thanks.

u want to create a 23.976 3:2 pull down...procoder will let you select the frame rate but wont let you set the interlacing properties to progressive or none, keep it on lower field 1st an dyou will be fine,

Problem is that most conversion programs will introduce interlace artifacts where there should be none. Your original video is progrsiive, so why should your destination video include interlace? Some say it's normal, but when I play the encoded DVD in an NTSC player it looks very bad. Not sufficient for distribution.

In my experience, the best thing to do is take the progressive PAL footage and put it through Cleaner on Mac or TMPeg on Windows and convert to NTSC. Some are going to argue that converting from 25 to 29 will cause problems, but in the end it's still the best solution at a reasonable budget. The best thing you can hope for is that the system will downsize the image with a decent algorithm and duplicate a frame every 5. I never noticed the extra frame during playback.
