Got a DVD recorder for christmas, wondering how it compares quality-wise to authoring software like, say, Studio Pro3? Thanks.

hi there-
this is kind of an odd question.
Your dvd recorder will burn DVDs. ( or record video?)
DVD SP3 will author DVDs.
I'm confused. Maybe you could elaborate and someone will do a better job of helpinng out...

Hello,
They really are two different animals in my opinion. I've got both. Well I don't have Studio pro 3, but I have an authoring system as well as a set top dvd recorder. While the dvd recorder is great for recording tv programs, home movies, etc. I always use my authoring (DVD burner and Adobe Encore) system for my professional projects. There are 4 different quality settings on my dvd recorder, however I only find the SP and XP settings acceptable. I dont remember off hand what bitrate the SP uses, but the XP looks to see how much room is available on your dvd and adjusts the bitrate to fit. The recorder will allow you to have very basic menus, whereas the authoring system will allow you to create your own menus, buttons, etc, giving you total creative freedom and a professional, polished look.
