*Possible Spoiler*
I have no idea what the creatures are. But the scuttlebutt around the Internet is that they are werewolves of some type. The red cloak would fit certain drawings that I have seen of The Wolf in "Little Red Riding Hood."

Werewolves? Where is this rumor coming from?
All the "rumors" I've seen (rumors based on the script that went around while back, so, not really rumors, except that the there's an idea that this particular twist is so bad, due in particular to a single line of dialog, that there's no way the script is the real deal) are in a completely different direction.
I don't want to mention what the rumor is, because if it's true, it'll ruin the film for you.
But, werewolves is a new one. I really hope it's something more in that direction, but I'm kind of doubting it, because everything in the trailers points in the direction of what was in the script...

***Possible Spoiler***
I never read the script that was floating around. The werewolf thing that I was referencing came from a forum that's full of M. Night devotees; they might have been talking out of their asses, though.
I don't know what the twist is, but I heard that it was sort of gay. The Philadephia Daily News did report that MNS brought several principal cast members back for reshoots a week or so ago. And even though those involved are denying it, people on the 'net are saying that he reshot the ending in some way.
I don't know what the creatures are and I also don't know the ending. Really the only thing that I'm interested in is, hopefully, seeing MNS turn out a quality product.
ps. put spoiler tags around your post when you talk about possible endings. We don't want to mislead people or ruin anything for anyone.
pps. Ok, I know what ending (and line) that you are referring to now and let's just say that unless he handles it perfectly . . . I hope it's werewolves.
I heard they were midgets out to get their revenge on the "biggies" living in the village... The midgets were cast out once they couldn't reach that big bell they ring.
So in the movie when they ring the big bell, they're really just taunting the midgets that live out in the woods.
Spooky eh?

The "Midget" ending is the new ending that he recently shot, and it is VERY scary because the midgets can jump amazing horizontal distances. Apparently, M. Night is a huge fan of midgets and recently wrote a book called "Billy Barty and Me," which he is currently adapting for his next feature film (Disney is reportedly paying him 47 million for the screenplay). The only confirmed casting decision for "BB and Me" is everybody's favorite midget, Warwick Davis, who will of course play Billy Barty.

A little birdy told me that the ending may have something to do with The Village being a sort of Omish, natural based town or culture. The scary things coming would be modern civilization moving in on thier town and way of life.

I can't open the trailer!!! :-[
I love Night Shyamalan's work. My favorite is everyone's least favorite, Unbreakable. I have been obsessed with idea of duality for a long time (black vs. white, God vs. Evil, good vs. bad, masculine vs feminine, Yin vs. Yang idea etc). I did a series of paintings about this issue, and felt like this movie totally represented everything about that. I loved the fact that the good(Bruce Willis) meets the bad(S Jackson) at the end, and it just ends there!!! Evil has to exist in order for Good to exist, and it just ends that way. They meet, and then end…

I'd have liked Unbreakable a lot more if I never saw the Sixth Sense...
Has anybody seen the TV commercial for The Village? Right at the end it shows that red hooded thing again, but this time you can see for a split second...coming from the red hood spikes...Great trailer!

Maybe the monsters don't exist. It is told from the blind girl's perspective. Maybe it is all in that girl's head since she cannot see. Maybe the villeage folks are pulling a big prank on her.

Im digging M Knight but Im eager to see something different; his films are somber, deliberate and controlled.
Id like to see him up the tempo.
