You guys think this will be much more expensive than the DVX? How much was the XL-1 when it first came out? If their both the same price new, I think ill still pick up a used dvx...

The $4999 surprises me in that it is not competitive in that $3000 Prosumer category. I'm sure you'll be able to get it for less. (The DVx100a is listing for $3,479.95 currently) and when I bought my DVX I paid $3200 out the door.

Yeah, $5000 seems a bit much. But hey! You can interchange lenses. :P

I can't remember what the DVX MSRP was when it came out, but I remember when I bought my VX-1000, I got it as soon as the boat hit the dock, and paid close to $4,500 for it. The price of the VX-1000 stayed pretty firm for a few years with the lack of competition. With the Canon XL2, I believe that the price should be $4,500. I think they want to stay with in striking distance of the DVX.

The DVX100, when it was initially announced, carried an MSRP of $3495. Before it was even released they'd raised the price to $3795. Street price hovered around $3200.

The 100A carries an MSRP of $3995, and a street price of about $3400.

The XL2 will probably hover at or around its $4999 price for a while, as 7 years of pent-up demand get satisfied. I wouldn't expect it to go below $4800 for quite a while (although I'm sure Royal Cameras and 5 Stars Electronics will be advertising it for $2899 or something equally ridiculous!)
