I know that some of the high-end camcorders (including some HD cams) have BNC out, which some people prefer to use...

Anyone know what kind of signal the XL2S's BNC video-out outputs? Does it use the squeezed 720x480 16:9 like it does to the tape? Someone mentioned that the firewire will output the same signal that uses to write to tape is this true?

It would seem strange that it would actually try to do 2:3:2:3 via that signal...

Also, I see two BNC outs on the body, what gives?

The BNC out is the same as a composite RCA out, only with a more secure connection (can't be pulled out as easily).

What will come out will be an analog signal, but yes, it will be squeezed. No pulldown.

The firewire out will have the same data stream that's recorded to tape, yes.

Neither will have anything that's HD.

No pulldown.
Let's clarify that -- the output will be 60i composite video, so the pulldown will be added: if shooting 2:3, there will be 24 frames per second with 3:2 pulldown inserted to round it out to an NTSC-legal 60i stream. If shooting 2:3:3:2, one blended frame will be added to each 4-frame sequence to again round it out to 60i.
