my friend and i were talking about the XL2 and this is what he said
"its nice and all, but in some ways its like a guy with a small penis buying a sports car, its just to impress people."
thought some people might get a kick out of that.

Yeah, the XL2 is all about looks and impressing people ::)
I'd say it's more like a guy with a normal penis buying possibly the best MiniDV camera he can afford.
Do you spiritually talking to Holms (John Holms):-)?

So would that mean that if a womam purchases it, she has "penis envy"? ;D
It does look sexy. I'll wait to see how the footage looks...
I'm not going to sacrifice footage quality for looks.

I don't think you're going to get very far trashing the XL-2 on this board with an inane and insulting comment. My impression is that most of have an open mind as to the quality of the XL-2 and in the absence of a definitive, informed DVX100/XL-2 comparison--the jury is still out.

Boy, Barry, I'm not new to posting, and I try to keep my jokes under control, because it is easy to be misinterpreted. Hopeful, a woman would see that I'm belittling the very concept of "penis envy"...
I thought my post says the same thing you do.
I'll wait for real footage.
(Just dawned on me, that you are referring to the other post I responded to.)
If so, I guess I didn't take his joke too seriously. I wouldn't mind having a Ferrari in my garage.
Frankly, a nice-looking design that also functions well is a plus. I'd love to see both in a camera. The DVX100A looks great to me.
I bet the XL2 is a great camera. We'll see.

i wouldnt say i was bashing the XL2, i just thought what my friend said was funny. I myself plan on buying a DVX in the next few weeks. Why not the XL2? One reason is the size, I live in philly and rely on my bike and public transportion. But mostly number two, the price. I"m a college student and just cant afoard the extra $1500. I really do think the XL2 is going to be sweet, and if i had the money i would really think about waiting to buy one. So dont take my joke as "canon bashing" becasue i think its great that another company got into the 24p game.

... or, it's not the size of the camera that counts, it's how you use it. ;D
"Ooooh, hey there big fella! Are you here to shoot a video, or just happy to see me?" :o

iam that so called friend, let me just say i wasnt bashing any camera. I was just talking about how some people i know are ready to sell their souls for the xl2 mainly to look pro. As a poor college student i realize most of the advantages of the xl2 are negatives for me , ie cost of cam, cost of lenes, size and still getting things like mics and tripods and lights.
I belive its what you do with your cam and not what cam your doing with, we have all seen crap done on the dvx, and my friend watson has done amazing work with a 4 year old sony single chip.
So to sum it up i was talking about those guys who buy xl1/xl2's to say they have them and dont actully do anything with them, but want to impress all the kids on the street or their college teacher.
thats my stance on it, granted xl2 is amazing and i think my comment was a joke you all took to serious and was sorta out of context.
thexl2.com will have side by side shots coming soon.
peace.
ps i dont know if anything i just said makes sense.

Wow! You guys are rough! ;D
I would like to agree with watson's friend (aka penisenvi - cute). Also adding that Canon makes a great camera (on my second *consumer* canon camera)...but with canon it has always been about the looks. And if it works for them great, I personally think it's a very uncomfortable camera.

I agree, the XL1 is very uncomfortable to operate - it's just awkward to hold.
But if they XL2 image quality is great, then good for them :)
