Well not just for a XL2 but even the DVX and other cameras. By going to Hong Kong and getting it there, I heard that even with a plane ticket both ways and getting cameras there would be cheaper than buying them in North America.

The XL2 may be alot less expensive in Hong Kong, but it very well may have Chinese nomenclature. So if you speak Chinese, go for it. And besides I guess it's like taking a vacation at the same time.

We have previously spoken about this in another post ... and while it may not apply to some it did apply to me.

I got 1 year International Warranty with my DVX.

I have friends who speak cantonese/mandarin whom took me to the correct place to buy.

I purchased a PAL DVX.

I paid NO tax or recieved NO sh** from customs.

In fact it was the BEST waste of time I can recall doing.

English version DVX ....

Plane ticket was free due to Frequent Flyers points, accomodation was free thanks to kind friends/relatives.

Spent around $3000 US on my DVX. Recently bought a Centuy Optics .3x lens from Hong Kong to for around $700 US.

I guess the free Plane Ticked and Free accommodations helped you out.. and sorry to break it to you but there is no such thing as an "international" warranty from Panasonic.. maybe you got a MAC warranty?

There is no such thing as an international warranty on this product. This is nothing but pure fantasy. Sorry folks. Warranty is the responsibility of the sales company that sold the product, and in this case it would be Hong Kong.

Hope this helps,

Jan

I was told it was an "International Warranty ... " We filled out papers then and there that they kept and on return to AUS in our mail box was another set of papers to fill out and return. I am 100% positive it said "International Warranty" but then again it could have just said "Warranty". I dont know what a MAC warranty is - maybee you could explain this?

Even if I had of paid for a flight and accomadation - it would still work out cheaper for me living in AUS to buy in HK. Dont know about you US folks.

I bought my DVX in Singapore and got it for the same price of a Sony vx2000 localy. My dad was on holiday & got it down for me. There is no such model sold here on the island (Malta) and the agent shook his head when I mentioned the DVX to him. He said that all camera repairs here get shipped to Singapore anyway. I have been lucky, and to date I have paid the camera off in work. Now I came to buy my deck/camcorder. Wanted to buy a NV-GS15 localy, but they want 990 USD from the store here when the same model NTSC version costs less than half that in the US. I will be buying mine from Germany loosing the warrenty and option of taking it for repairs. This is a sad situation Jan! We cry watching all the forgien deals!
