HI friends
After watching the footage posted on these forums. It shows clearly a good clarity.
But its PAL version with 800,000 pix
what about NTSC it has only 680,000 pix.
the sharpness of the NTSC image maynot be as sharp as PAL .
any suggestions

pal cams always have more pixels cos theyhave a larger image...
SD = 720*576 vs 720*480

It'll end up really being the same as with the PAL vs NTSC DVX I think - if you're in PAL land, stick with PAL, and in NTSC, stick with NTSC.
The convenience of having it in your native format, mixed with the fact that you'll lose any PAL benefits when TRANSFERED to NTSC makes the choice easy. The only reason you might want a PAL instead is for a film out, but even still, you're then altering the speed, so both have their benefits and drawbacks.

For the PAL system XL2 sold in Europe, Australia and the U.K., the CCD's are the same physical size, but the pixel counts are different. The total area of each CCD is composed of 800,000 pixels. The 16:9 target area is 960 x 576 (550,000 pixels) and the 4:3 area is 720 x 576 (410,000 pixels). For those who may be unfamiliar with DV camcorders recording in the PAL system, be advised that it's still a DV25 format, with the same data rate as a DV camcorder using the NTSC system, at 25 megabits per second. Therefore, the higher resolution of PAL video is offset by a slower frame rate: on the PAL XL2, you have a choice of 50i (fifty interlaced fields per second) or 25p (twentyfive progressive frames per second). Whether you shoot with an NTSC or PAL system camera, the data written to the DV cassette is the same, at 25mbps.

hi kidster
thanx for reply.
well nice comparision.if both are same ....i think its better to go for pal version....
25p can be easily transferred to film,
high resolution. when in 16x9
transferring pal to ntsc is easy.as both frame rates are equal.
well only thing is the price issue...how much a pal version cost..
thanx guys

no. ntsc is 30fps; pal is 25 fps.
search the site here. this was asked often before. the result was always: if you live in palland: use pal. if you are in NTSCland go with NTSC.

I think what vamshi meant was that with the PAL vs NTSC DVX, it's 25fps vs 24fps, and 25 can easily be converted to 24, which can be converted with a 3:2 pulldown to 60i.
But, regardless, it's more hassle than its worth - just shoot NTSC if your country supports NTSC, and shoot PAL if your country supports PAL.
