Rear Window is one of my favourites. I try to watch it every year if I can.

Not sure about thriller as this is more of a horror film but it has great suspense, Black Christmas. The original version of course. :)

The Shining is easily one of my favs of all time, Rear Window is probably my favorite Hitchcock movie next to Psycho. The Human Centipede was actually a really solid movie, very well done, but horrifyingly disgusting.

On a side note, open for discussion, when i think of "thriller" i think of "thrills". "thrills" to me are "shock" mixed with "excitement". I think I'll try to make my short exciting, something of which I have never done. lol.

Thrillers often overlap with other genres. :)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Fargo is my favorite thriller. Pun intended.

Edit:
...so is Alien, truth be told.IMDB has them both listed quite high on their top THRILLER (http://www.imdb.com/chart/thriller) list. They are both far more than Horror in my eyes.

BTW, You ever going to enter a Fest?

That's because they cross between horror and thriller.

BTW, AFI has them both on the top thriller list as well.

It's cool, I bet they're on the horror list as well. That's what makes them special in my eyes.

The "Thriller" is the red-headed stepchild of the genre tree. It's often misapplied solely for marketing purposes, the assumption being that it's more palatable to a broader segment of customers than the "horror" or even "sci-fi" monikers are. To (badly) paraphrase the theme from The Incredibles: If everything is a "thriller" then nothing is a "thriller".

SESSION 9 is the business!

Too true! I loved the ending! I had no expectations when I started watching it. I didn't even know what it was about. But ended up pleasantly surprised. :) Besides it was a thriller with a very humanistic theme.

I bought that on DVD when it came out years ago and i hated it. The 2nd time i watched it i realised that it's actually pretty good.

"Too true! I loved the ending! "

(Session 9) - the ending is great, and then when i went onto IMDB to read other peoples analysis, there are quite a few much deeper theories and explanations as to what really goes on in the movie.

read some of them on IMDB, and then watch the movie again, it's very well thought out.

...To (badly) paraphrase the theme from The Incredibles: If everything is a "thriller" then nothing is a "thriller"... I was gonna say "Everything is everything." but I like your Incredibles bit better. Mis-genred genres are dangerous (for us storytellers, anyhow)...

Thx 1138

I wondered if anyone would mention THX1138. Great film.

Rear Window is wonderful, as is Psycho. Alien, Jaws, North by Northwest, The Game... The list could be long. (I even liked and was surprised by Mr. Brooks - got terrible reviews, but I liked it anyway.)
