Wolf camera/
Ritz camera/
Mac Mall/ PCmall/
JandR music and computer World/
Ecost.com/ ;
They all list the camera as available in Mid to Late September. But is this because they are not the first reciprecants of the camera from Canon?
Would a place like B and H get the first batch? Anyone the slightest?
I have read that the last day of Aug it ships (on this forum)> but is that to prefered vendors only? I was going to pre-order it already but I want to pre-order it from a retailer that is going to get it first. - Of course, becasue I think I'm more important than any one else.
And its not like I can just call up the places and ask if there competitors are going to get the camera before them.
Also, B and H lists it as 'Back Orderd". So does that mean that they had an inital shipment number and that has already been sold out. I guess I could call them on that one but its 5am. :-[

ZGC told me Tuesday, so I went ahead and ordered mine. The salesperson Chris was awesome to deal with. It was a $500 deposit to hold it, but I just went ahead and paid it in full.

How much did you pay for it? I figured the street price would end up being less than $5k

Oh, sure , just realize it - everyone who is rushing to buy the XL2 now is going to spend about 500 dollars too much just to have the newest toy. . .
Then after the demand goes down in 3 months it will be 4,500.

Your point is? That's the nature of the beast in anything technology. Its crazy how a lot of people on this board just keep coming up with half ass reasons why they won't be purchasing this camera. The BBC rejected them, its too heavy/bulky, if I buy the camera then the lens, then it will be $8,000,000. I mean just stop! For crying out loud if you can't afford it, its ok; if you just put your paper out for the DVX and accessories cool, its ok. But stop hating on the camera, its going to be hot just like the DVX was hot when it dropped, quit shitting on those of us who are purchasing with half ass reasoning as to why it will be a bust. Newest toy or not I bought it, got the dough to buy it and try it and still keep my DVX. Quit being so petty on the damn board.

I wish people could wait to at least see some side-by-side reviews before they hammer nails in the XL2's coffin. It may turn out to be spectacular. They have had almost two years to improve on the DVX's technology after all. Yes it's more expensive. But yes, it can do some things the DVX can't. And yes, perhaps the DVX can do some things the XL2 can't.
But until we know for sure, why speculate, and especially why dissuade someone else from considering it? Let's let the product at least hit the shelves before we decide its merits! ;D

I agree. I am surprised on both sides of this coin.
a. Some people are already dropping 5 G's without knowing the whole truth
b. Some people are dismissing it without knowing the full truth
I just thank god I have my DVX and wont be making this "What do I buy!?" decision for quite some time (years most likely). Im just enjoying the debates.

I think people are getting a little emotional because it's not what they expected and they feel a little let down. I realise that we need to wait for some really good footage (Oh on DVINFO, there is a thread where some guy has posted some 60i dull DV res footage) but to be honest I'm trying to look at the other things. Things that make my life easier when shooting. That's what was going to make me excited about the new camera.
But it seems that they havn't even delivered on the standard DVX bits and pieces like wide angle, repeatable barrel marks, LCD etc. Sure we get a BNC out for video - nice but really...whoopee.
I'm on the lookout for a more "pro" looking camera and I was optimistic about the XL2, now I'm considering the DVC200 and even the old Xl1s (Just cause it has the look, only VERY cheap)

you tell em cinebuddy. I mean i love the dvx too but i'm not gonna limit myself just to the dvx. I think the xl2 will kick some major ass and frankly it doesn't matter who makes it as long as the quality is there. Don't hate just appreciate! (sorry dunno where that came from ;D)

and one more thing! damn it i'm pissed now, hehe (j/k). There will be a xl2user.com forum soon so stop discouraging ppl and let them purchase the xl2 and we'll all be one big happy family and can borrow each other's camera etc etc etc. ;)
