I told you so guys, 1st of September is the day. Time to start a new forum.

http://www.sony.co.uk/PageView.do?site=odw_en_GB&page=ProductTechnicalFe atures&section=en_GB_Products&productmodel=%2FCamc order%2FCAM+MiniDV%2FDCR-PC350&productcategory=%2FCamcorder%2FCAM+MiniDV&pr oductsku=DCRPC350E.CEH

The reports so far idicate amazing picture quality and so far no color fringing reports. W/A adapter is needed, just like on the Canon or Super 8 mm format. 1/3" 2 MP CCD; same DOF as on XL2, at the same F-stop/focal length

This is the least expensive filmmaking solution

I meant that the DOF is the same as on Super 8, not that W/A is needed for Super 8

It's great if you live in PAL land. In NTSC world you get a faux dropped frame 24p and I have also read that you can't shoot 24p/25p while in 16:9 mode, however, I could be wrong on that point.

you can shoot 25p in 16:9.

Why buy NTSC model anyway. PAL gives you 576 horizintal lines, needed if you want to blow up the image

I don't believe that Sony will be dropping frames in the NTSC model. Whoever ever claimed that is way off.

I would by NTSC because I live in a place where all the TV's are NTSC. IF I were to by a camera only to shoot to blow up for film, well, I'd rather just shoot Super 16. Personally, I don't think that I would by any 1chip camera ever again, even if the 24P is true 24p, which I seriously doubt.

It does say there's a progressive recording mode, but Sony cams have been able to do 15p for a while.

Another 25p Sony Cam: Sony PDW-510/530

The XDCam System based on DVCam and IMX. Recorded on Blue Ray Disc.

Here are some pictures on my page (25p, 16:9):

Martin, tried to look up about the camera and everything was in Japanese or Germany. Tried to translate but didn't get much help.

So tell us about the Sony PDW-510/530 and how much does it cost, plus and minus the lens.

Thanks Gary

Found the price $19,900 for the DV and $34,900 for the IMX and DV. I think I'd rather go with the SDX900 P2 type camera for only $20,000 if I was going to spend that much. The upgraded DVX

Jip, very expensive.
DVCam: 18.100 €
IMX: 32.400 €

SDX 900 has the better price, thats right.

The Sony-Cameras have Firewire IN/OUT. There are no problems to control the cam with adobe prem pro or avid DV. No capture problems with DVCam.
You canīt overwrite your Videofiles (forget RET, you donīt need it).
Drop outs? You have a guarantee of 7 years of the laser. I donīt know, what kind of drop outs you have with blue ray disc.

no dropout on the blu-ray; I think that there is a 24p version or option by now; the bit rate is the same as on DVC PRO50 but the MPEG2 codec is 2x as efficient so the quality should be better; this camera is perfect for ENG; it should definitely be more reliable and need less maintenance than SDX 900.

HD version prototype was shown at last NAB and should be available by the next show. The optical system is good for 72 Mbps; with MPEG2 codec the HD version should produce equal quality to F900, probably at 1/2 the cost.

Between now and early 2005, 2 JVC and one Sony quality HDV cameras should be introduced.

what's this about $1K, and suddenly we are talking $20K. Can we change the title...this is simply misleading!

The little camera is about $1K; then someone started talking about more expensive progressive scan cameras.

There was some agreement with Matsushita that 24p DV will not be released until Sept. 1st; that is the reason for the Canon and Sony cameras being introduced on Sept. 1st

this is ideal for casual shoot out on the town. I'd love it for that. Just because it's 16:9 doesn't mean we can shoot a film with it.
so what else are they releasing? I'd like to see 24p get intergrated to cheaper models.
