It is my understanding that only 50 pcs were air shipped to the USA and divided up amongst the major dealers, B&H, Samy's, Birns and Sawyer etc who each received a few pieces and that no more will be available until late in Sept when "the boat comes in toward the end of Sept.

This would imply that there will be no deals on these first cameras.

Bill,

Are you saying that Canon only shipped 50 cameras nationwide? If that's the case Bhphoto would be out of stock right now! Sure you got your facts straight or maybe I'm not understanding what you meant in your post. I just can't imagine Canon shipping so few knowing there would be a demand for the camera. They'd want to sell as many cameras as they can and as quickly as possible before any major price drop, correct?

There are a few reports on DVInfo of guys who've gotten theirs as well.

Regarding the "XL2s"... it took 'em three years to get around to updating the XL1 to the XL1s. I sure wouldn't expect an XL2s until 2007!

Well, I am quoting a knowledgeable source from a major dealer who got 5 cameras and told me that only 50 were airshipped in advance of the larger shipment that is on the boat due later in Sept. While it is possible that the info is incorrect I doubt it.

Which will eventually go to Colin Minihan of smiley-films.com

He deserves to be working on a higher end camera!

XL2's are pretty much available country wide, but going fast.

The XL2 iPod Interface will arrive much later.

Abel CineTech (NY & LA/Burbank) have the XL2's in stock as well as plenty of DVX's. Was in on Friday and they spent some time going over the camera with me. Going to be an interesting race between the 2 cameras. They certainly both have their advantages.
