Hey all, i finally am getting to completing my DSLR rig, and am in need of ND filters. what types do you recommend? ie. ND8,16 etc. also does the brand make a difference? i've seen some crazy prices for these filters and then some for really cheap. I am pretty broke as of now, and just want guidance to making the correct purchase(s)! thanks!

I've been using Lightcraft Workshop FaderND filters - they're rotary nd filters that increase in density as you move them, and they're working great for me. I would recommend you try the mk II versions which are an optical improvement on the mk 1's.

just dont use the fader on lenses over 85mm...it will beging to degrade ur image. lenses below 85 seem fine.

+1 Love the fader ND, have not tried it on the long lens though.

Instead of spending $125 on an LCW Fader ND with a front element made of plastic, you're better off spending $200 on two B+W polarizers, one circular, one linear. Attach the linear in the front. Voila! You've got an adjustable ND filter made of high quality optics. You can also attach two circular polarizer filters together; however, the front-most one's glass requires being reversed.
