I was forced to use the kit lens that came with the Canon Rebel t2i after my tripod lost a leg just a minute before the wedding ceremony started.

The preferred Tamron 17-50 f2.8 was too shakey to use handheld, so in desperation I grabbed the Canon kit with stabilizer. I shoot on tripod mostly.

The image quality was very nice, perhaps not on par with the Tamron, but the stabilzed picture is a life saver, especially during the vow exchange, when my hands started to tire and shake. Normally I steer clear of the kit lens, but I'm glad I had it with me.

During the reception I used Rollei 55 1.4 (no infinity focuss due to adapter) at 1600. The picture did not have visible noise to my eye.

Compared to the Panasonic HVX-200 I used at the last wedding, the Canon t2i was a pleasure to use, light and maneuverable.

I love my t2i.

I'm sure I'll love the GH13 even more, but that will have to wait for my shekels to accumulate.

I understand, Chris.

Actually, I'm told by a family friend, the bride is actually quite athletic - into long distance running and that sort of thing - she's not as fragile as she looks.

The family is skinny and wiry.

The wedding I did before this one was the opposite. The bride was nicknamed "Bridezilla" by family and friends because of her size. At least, I think they're her family and friends.

How come there is no audio for the groom and bride? Audio is just as if not more important than imagery. You should REALLY put mics on the minister, and the groom.....otherwise it just seems as if uncle Fred took the video......

Chris-
didn't think your 'feedback' was helpful at all.

Outlaw-
agree. pretty boring to watch vows without being able to hear them!

Berylium-
some solutions: place a digital recorder near a speaker and let it run, or connect a recorder to the mixing board. sync in post (plural eyes or manually)

Hello Outlaw and Averan:

Thanks for the comments and advice.

The no-audio for the bride and groom caught me off guard too.

The situation was a bit "ya got 1 minute before the bride shows" and I was freaking out.

While I had my ZoomH4n with me there was no way to get it up close without a stand, so I decided not to use it. Note to myself: get a mic stand for the next gig.

Also, in my haste to set up my second t2i locked down wide shot I yanked at a stuck tripod leg (Velbon) and the leg pulled right off! The leg was held by a thin plastic piece which flew over the balcony.

Thats when I decided to shoot with the first t21 with the kit lens (borrowed from the father of the bride) for the whole ceremony.

As for recording off the speaker or mixing board, it wouldn't have worked in this situation.... the PA mike was aimed at the minister and not the bride and groom.

I may edit and shorten the vows for the next cut (they're kinda boring for the casual viewers even if audible).
