View Full Version : XL2 Widescreen Playback Question
10-25-2004, 07:32 PM
I'm sure I'm not the first one to post this topic so I apologize if this is a repeat. Is there a setting on the XL2 that will allow footage shot in 16:9 to playback on a 4:3 TV as 16:9? I'm not in desperate need of widescreen but I was a little surprised in my experimenting that there were no black bars on the top and bottom and the picture was stretched to fill the whole screen. If any XL2 user or any camera user knows what the problem is and can suggest anything including possible software needed, please let me know. :) Thanks,

you need to burn a DVD.
If correctly setup, your DVD player will automatically play your anamorphic (16:9) clips with black bars (letterbox), and automatically play 4:3 clips in 4:3. Once the adjustment has been made, no need to select a different setting for each clip's aspect ratio.
Go in the DVD player's menu ( you make the adjustment and it will keep it in memory) and select your "TV aspect ratio" to match your TV set.

~If you play back a 16:9 recording on a normal TV, the image appears Horizontally squeezed
~If you connect the camcorder to a TV with an S(S1) Terminal ID-1 system, recordings made in 16:9 mode will be automatically played back in widescreen mode
~The aspect ration does not change when you operate the ASPECT RATIO switch during recording. It changes once you pause recording
Amazing what looking in the manual can do for one. Hope that helps.
