is there a difference between "true" 16:9 and "native" 16:9????

I have read that the XL2 actually has 4:3 chips that are masked for 16:9...is this true?

I've also read that the sony PD-10 has "true" 16:9 but has 4:3 chips....anyone have anymore info????

does "native" 16:9 mean real 16:9 chips and "true" - a 4:3 masked chip for 16:9????

hope this makes sense

thanks in advance

All cameras with CCD's smaller than 2/3" have 4:3 chips. The upcoming Sony HDV camera is the only 1/3" camera with a 16:9-shaped chip.

"true" and "native" are used interchangeably, but both terms have eventually come to mean that the camera delivers full vertical resolution when in 16:9 mode.
