Kanye West Music Video...Greenscreen??

I was watching some Music Videos on Mtv the other day and saw something pretty cool looking. It was in a Kanye West video (hip hop). There is a shot of him in the bathroom at the sink and its a MCU shot then the camera dollies back to reveal where he is and it ends up being a wide shot of Kanye West at the sink in a bathroom with a long mirror across the whole wall. Now did they greenscreen that shot to clear out the camera and crew? I mean if your doing any work with mirrors and you pull back the camera you would see the camera and crew in the shot but in this scene you don't! I forgot the name of the song but its a cool shot!

Not exactly sure but behold the power of CGI. Al you need is an initial area of green to pull it off and the rest is garbage and can be matted out.

The gag for this shot was that it was to look like a pov of kanye rappin into a mirror in an airport bathroom. At one point he is close up to the mirror then backs up and raps, and we see what he sees in the mirror. also, his hand are crossing front of the frame in the foreground. so...

they shot 2 elements for this shot. one shot was with the cameraman siting on the sink, shooting kanye rappin. then they spun around and shot the sink stuff with kanyes hands movin in front of the camera. the camera man had to sync his movements with what kanye did in the performance shot. so if kanye steps back, so does the camera man, kanye too had to sync to his performance as well to get the hand movement correct, he stood just off camera with his hands in front. if u watch it again, u can see that the movements dont match perfect. the bathroom reflected in the mirrorwiggles against what we see inthe foreground bathroom. anyway, not bad for a music video, they almost never have time ti get it 100% right. not sure if they had a green screen up on the mirror at all. they might have. anyway, cut the mirror out of the shot and comp it over the kanye performance stuff and u got it. anyway, i saw a making the video for this a while back, i might be a bit off in my discription, but its pretty close, i think.

Well I work with someone that has a contact at Roc-a-Fella Records Kanye's Label and he asked them for me how they did it and they said some of that stuff in that video was Green Screened. The bathroom scene and the shot of him looking into the back window of the Limosine was a green screen shot. Regardless of how they pulled it off, its a cool shot! It made me say how did they do that! LOL!
