What are your thoughts on Century Optics' wide angle adapter lenses? After reading some posts here, I may go with a Canon XL2 and 16X or 14X manual lens and a .6 wide angle adapter for tight spaces.

Is the .6 adapter good enough quality for broadcast purposes?

Bill Turner with Century here:

Hopefully you will get some feed back from users, as I would expect-even hope- you would not 100% trust me on this.

Having said that, Century got into the video business at the high end-broadcast, and moved into the MiniDv arena when the need for professional quality optics in that format became apparent.

We have sold many many of these and I cannot ever remember on being returned because the customer was not satisfied with the optical quality.

We just finished testing this optic on the new Sony HDV FX1 and it looked great, on a 19" HD monitor and on a 40" HD Plasma screen.

I have no idea where you are, but some dealers would allow you to shoot a test, and some have a return policy, we have always had a 30 day moneyback guarrantee, but cannot force dealers to honor it, they set there own return rules.

Sorry not to be more clear, the .6X works virtually identically on the XL2 compared to the XL1, the 20X is 5.4mm at the wide vs 5.5mm for the 16X. The optical performance is very good.

All the accessories for the 16X auto were optically fine on the 20x, there was a mechanical interferrence problem with the .7x converter, but it has been changed to make all .7x's now being shipped from the factory compatible with the 20x lens as well as the 16x.

Thanks for the help, Bill. I am planning on purchasing a Century Optics .6 wide angle adapter and trust that it will suit me just fine. I appreciate the fact that you post here on this board. Afterall, that's like having a direct link to a company, especially one that stands by its products, and should there be any problems, I can always ask or take advantage of the 30 day return period. Thanks again!
