I'm pretty new to all of this...I have the HVX200a, and Sony Vegas Pro (which i just bought before the HVX200a). I'm working on my second feature film, my first was filmed with DVX100b. I am NOT an editor, but am planning on doing some basic editing of our footage for the new project.

Question, i film on the HVX, load the files into the PC, and drag and drop into Vegas (using your software, of course).... Nothing special as far as settings? I'll probably be shooting 1080/24. My editor's a little weirded out that Vegas wont support the HVX....is there any loss of resolution, or anything that we should be concerned about. This film is already slated for distribution, so i dont want to start and have to re-edit...

Also, i sometimes will be working on laptop, and sometimes on home computer. Will i have to buy the software twice?

Hey Jason,

Your workflow is correct. You just copy the HVX200a files (contents and lastclip.txt) to your harddrive then using Raylight Ultra drag and drop the clips into Vegas. There is no quality loss in using Raylight Ultra with Vegas to edit P2 mxfs.

The one thing that you want to make sure to do though is set the HVX200a to record at 1080/24pA which has the advanced 2:3:3:2 pulldown in it. This way Raylight Ultra can remove the advanced pulldown on the fly and you can easily edit at 24p.

You can use Raylight Ultra on your laptop and desktop as you are allowed per the license agreement to install on 2 computers.

awesome! 1080/24 was my planned way to film, with the exception of maybe some overcranking/undercranking with 720/24PN.

One last thing..which one of the MXF files do i use? (sorry, probably a stupid question)...

I'll be buying either this week or next, depending on when i get my new laptop! Thanks for your help!

Just to clarify, 1080/24pA is the best format to shoot with.


One last thing..which one of the MXF files do i use? (sorry, probably a stupid question)...

You would drag the MXF from the video folder of the contents folder.

Hey, Andy! I just bought a Panasonic hvx200a camera. I was wondering if it was essential to use Raylight in order to transfer the files from the P2 card to my Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum software. $150 is a lot when I don't have much work right now but I can manage it if there is no other way. Thanks!
