Yeah, I've also been waiting to see if XL2 user site is going to launch any time soon. They seem to be taking there time about it.

Jarred, if setting up XL2user.com is a pain and extra work for you, I say forget it. You have already established a place (XL2 News) for XL2 users to go and discuss the camera. In addition, all the other topics on DVXuser are open to anyone. Having another forum on the web will only deplete visitors from DVXuser and also DVinfo. So just having a site dedicated exclusively for XL2 users is not nesscesary IMHO.

I agree with Kidster. But, you're propably going to have to change the name of dvxuser.com to something else in a couple of years. Atleast if Panasonic isn't going to name their new PALM-HD cameras DVX200 or something of the like. But as the new Panasonic designs are really different than the DVX100A, and the formats are different, I'd bet they'll change the prefix too. Ofcourse there might be a 16:9 version of the DVX100A that will propably be called DVXsomething, but my guess is that the DVX line will end there.

So, wouldn't it be great to change the name of dvxuser.com to something more permanent? Well, ofcourse you don't have to do this, untill they stop making DVXs.

I would like to see it get made. I'm a XL1s/GL2 user and will probably be upgrading in the near future, so a forum that caters more to the XL2 would be nice. Sure, a lot of the general topics on here cover any camera, but a lot of them are also DVX specific, which is reasonable considering this is DVXuser.com. Things like News/Articles, Tech/Hardware, Screengrabs/Clips, and even the monthly contests would be worthwhile for an XL2 specific site.

I'd sign up.

I understand the difficulty in maintianing 2 sites. Seems like tons of people are interested in seeing what folks are doing with their cameras. XL2 users don't appear to be different in that regard. How about simply adding an XL2 grabs and footage section? I agree that in general, the information here is universal (24P, DV, etc.) As an XL2 owner I find this site hugely informative. But personally, I'd love to see some other folks XL2 footage.

But hey, if you cats built it - I'd sign up.

For what it's worth, I would like to see an XL2 site as well. I own the DVX100a and am quite pleased with it. But I still read up on the XL2 and I'm not prejudice towards the XL2 owners. Who knows, someday I may own an XL2 as well.

Well thats good Jarred that you are still working on it and keeping it in mind. I think it would be a valuable resource for XL2 users and the video community in general. If you can handle admining it, then go for it :D

I think eqwalker's just trying to get rid of me...

Ok, here's my $0.02 - I don't want XL2user - and I own an XL2 and do not own a DVX... The reason is simply one of community. When I came aboard this site I had mentioned that I thought the name should be changed (not really, but spiritually if you will). I say this NOT because I want "my" camera included, but because I think this site is the best "Independent Video/Film" site around. Yes the focus is on the DVX and why shouldn't it be, for years the DVX was the only affordable prosumer camera for the indie film cat to use. Now you have the XL2 tomorrow you will have something else, the point is the information on this site goes WAY beyond using a DVX. The threads that go on here in audio, lighting, cinematography, etc. are excellent resources for ANYONE interested in making movies - regardless of platform. On a personal note, I've gotten to like the folks here, I've tried to impart what knowledge I have (adio/mixing/scoring), I look forward to visiting the board and being part of the community - not ANY community, THIS community. I don't want to be relegated to the short bus...

I would like something though. I would like to be able to participate, on some level, in at least some of the film fest stuff. I don't need to win a prize (I understand that this is a DVX site and Panny is one of your sponsors) but maybe a separate category for other cameras, or the ability to "win" an honorable mention, you get the idea. Full participation would be great and maybe someday the site will morph into something more like what John is saying.

That's all,

Matt

yes.. John may of been joking but its probally the way we will end up going.. specially if Pansonic's next camera doesnt have a DVX200 title.. this site already has become more about the people and making film than the camera itself.

I wasn't joking! I agree; Jarred, you have created a monster that started with the DVX100 and now encompasses filmmaking from many levels. Even my UNDEAD NATION will take the XL2 (24p). This is the best forum anywhere in my opinion and especially when it comes to the nuts and bolts of filmmaking; we all figure out our cameras eventually so why hang around? Its the community and like mided similar goal types that keep me here. Everyone is on the same page.

You rock Jarred! :D

What more needs to be said! Why would anyone want ANOTHER web site. Add a few needed sub links for the XL (and Hi-Def when needed)... Clips, technical, etc. A separate site would not fly - 90% of what makes this site rock is *here*... The people - Nothing to do with any camera. There is a site for the XL and it's been around for years and years and it's not the same as this place. Lots of info but not the family.

Just my 2 cents $1,000,000 worth :)

MattC - no, I'm not trying to get rid of you :)

Like you, I really enjoy the sharing of information and discussions that have gone beyond the DVX on this site. I was just not wanting to offend the XL2 owners out there if they wanted a site of their own. If the DVX and XL2 users can co-exist that would be great (I believe that they can). I'm sure a lot of the methods and procedures apply no matter what cam you use.

I agree. Especially when it comes to something like the 24p issues (which I'm still grappling with). You folks have been dealing with it for years, you know what your doing - XL2 users don't really have a clue yet... But the real strength here as I see it is the indie film stuff. I love Chris Hurd's site dvinfo.net, but to me that is more of a technical resource/high-end video resource. It's great, but I find this place better fits my personality.

Indeed. Same here. I have not had the privilege of attending any film schools or courses. All that I know has come from the net (especially here) and books that I have purchased. So I'm having to "learn-by-doing" and making mistakes along the way. But the passion of wanting to do it out-weighs the hurdles of not knowing and having to find out. I believe we will all benefit. Let the fun begin....
