View Full Version : Compressing XL2 19:9 footage in FCP for export...

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes....

I've shot footage with the XL2 in 16:9 aspect ratio. I can bring it into FCP just fine but whenever I try to export it via Compressor for web distribution, I get a 4:3 movie with black bars on the top and bottom. I can't seem to figure out how to export it so that it just displays the 16:9 image. When I set the export option to Anamorphic, I get a 16:9 file but I still have the black bars and it looks like its shot in Panavision, except that the images are then stretched.

How can I export a plain 16:9 movie? Thanks.

Matt,

first, see my response to your question in the Motion..and shutter speed question.

Now if you want to export in sorenson or other WEB files, then go in Compressor, click the "geometry" tab, and select "Pixel aspect" and choose NTSC CCIR 601/DV (Anamorphic).

good luck

Antoine

I saw that post, Antione, thanks! That worked great for making a mpg2 dvd. But I'm having a hard time making a .mov file that is anamorphic without the black bars. Maybe I'm missing something, I'll go back and reread your post and try again.

Thank you very much,

Matt

Whatever you are using don't export the footage with your normal aspect ration. Use Square Pixel and 853x480 as output size.

Your question was for a 16:9 NTSC footage and not a 19:9 I guess.
