Indie film maker here, and what I am wondering is I know that the XL2 will have the "native" 16x9, but with the Anamorphic Lens on the Panasonic, What do you think will be the quality difference. I know this is pure speculative discusion what what the heck....

That's the problem -- it's *purely* speculative. Best to withhold judgment until real comparisons are made.

I know, you would have thought that with the ground they had to cover catching the DVX they'd have handed out some of these to film schools pre-release so that footage would be abundant or something.
I have the patients of a condemned hospital when it comes to stuff like this ;D.

Big Willy,
I will know soon as I can get my hands on one. I love my DVX100A, but I am buying the XL2 also. I believe with the 16X9 feature it will work out great for me on a feature, however I will probably still use my DVX to shoot my TV shows each and every week.

Well its hard to compare quality when they are not shooting the same thing. However here is a XL2 grab i found
on the net, that has been rezised down to 720*405

So just for fun im post frame from mine DVX PAL with anamorfic adapter. it was orginal 720*576 strecthed to 1024*576.
Well not comparable but shows the DVX can still be in the fight. *:) *

I've got to say, *any* early footage, frame grabs, etc. that we see from the XL2 are likely going to be nowhere near the quality the camera will be capable of. It'll take some experimentation and some time and some controlled circumstances to bring out the best. So "snap judgements" based on trade-show floor grabs would be quite ill-informed.
Canon's just got to hand one of these things over to Jarred & me and we'll put it through its paces! ;D

yeah that frame grab looks like someone stuck a memory card in the card at the expo and took a pic of some dude walking buy.. not accurate.
Me and Barry will do a true showdown... we will hafta flip a coin to see who uses what though lol.

It is nearly impossible to tell the true quality of a camera from a JPEG of a camera source (except when you are comparing one against another from the same camera).

Well, I just cant wait till the real test footage comes out and real comparing. I want to buy my camera really soon. Atleast before I go to Technical School for Videography. So I can show something off atleast you know? Well Canon needs to get on the ball or something. And I hope that the make it a competitive price atleast. Something lower than 45. Well until then, this is sketta lee, sayin Peace out to all my homies!

Yes i hope that we get a real good test between the 2. And hopefully that it gonna be tested when the DVX has anamorfic adapter. Best possible res for both cams and about the same price.
But i think the pictures prove one thing, that how you light and expose, will be a more important factor than wich cam U use.
