I intend to buy a dv camera and have decided on the dvx or the xl2. I have been researching on which camera to get and I am still attached to the xl2. The only reason I'm still thinking about the DVX is because of how many people percieve it as having the best cine-look and the price. Considering that I intend to use it for school this semester, the DVX would be the right choice for making my dvd reel. I am still drawn to the XL2. I am very attracted to the 610 pixels per ccd, 16x9 capabilities, and the interchangeable lens system. I'm obsessed with control and it seems like the xl2 would be a perfect camera for me because of the many options that you can control in the camera. I love the look of widescreen and it bugs me that the DVX isn't as good producing 16x9 images. Eventhough the XL2 isn't as good recreating a film look as the DVX, I wouldn't mind going with the XL2 because of the 16x9 feature and lens capabilities.
Probably a bit naive, but I need help!

why do you need help? why not get the XL2. Are you concerned about price, or something else?

check out the post just below yours, there's a pretty good deal if I ever saw one. ;)
You can make the XL2 look like saturated colors or what you think is cinelook. It is a clean image too. Take a look at this mov.

you can also visit Rush at EVS (in burbank) and test out all the cameras at once and see for yourself. They have the XL2/DVX/HDVFX1 out and you can compare them.
EDIT: ooops, EVS is in Glendale. Here is their contact info. Rush will help you out!

Thanks for everyone replying back. And thanks to those giving me sites to compare. I'm really fascinated in the XL2 and I might just wait a couple of weeks, hopefully not months to get one.

Cine look ...
Get the XL2 ... much more raw good quality info out of that camera to play with in post. You can always make it look into what you feel is "cine look".
The more raw data dynamic range to play with, the better I say !
Mine will be here on Thursday !

Thats what the animators are telling me at the production company I'm interning for. More pixels...more to play with. Just takes time.
Thanks Strancali! Dests whenever you are ready, please let me know, I will be happy to help you ;D

Animators ? What do animators have to do with picture quality ?
You probably mean Digital Artists. :-)
Animators just move things ...

Its a small company. Everyone acts in multiple positions. Most of the animators double in as a digital artist...etc. We just call them animators cause thats what they mostly do. I'm only an intern, but I do a lot of assistant editor stuff and production assistant stuff. Last week I did a mock sound editing. Last night I organize head shots. Etc. I was telling most of the guys up there about the XL2. They say its promising.

Honestly, this site helped me decide on which camera I should get...XL2 or DVX.
Also, I appreciate everyone who helped me out. The websites were a reel help.
