Would like to do some nature videography and looking for the right video camera and lens within a budget of about 7,000. Output expected to be dvd, but who knows, maybe broadcast. XL2 looks good with the many Canon lenses that will work with it. Birds and other critters tend to require at least 400mm with still photography; does anyone have experience/recommendations regarding long lenses for the XL2? Assuming a good tripod, is the XL2 stable with a large lens? Does resolution suffer at all with the necessary adapter? Many thanks for any advice.

The XL2 is the camera for you, unless you want to spend a little more and get a kitted-out JVC DV5000U or Panasonic DVC200 (but then you'd lose the 24p and 30p capabilities).

You need a very stable tripod, and the EOS adapter will let you use still-camera lenses in whatever length you want. There should be no optical impact on resolution using the EOS adapter.
