I've just finished my first short film with the xl2. Its 4 mins long and its about how much fun it was to be in the first world war in the trenches.

Would anyone care to host it for a bit?

That sounds great strancali, thanks.

I'm trying to compress it right now and it seems to be taking a lot of trial and error as I have no idea about it.

Its four minutes long and I've got it down to about 100mb as a wm9 file that is half the original resolution.

What size should I try and get it too? Whats the best compression to use?

You can have 4 minutes very watchable at under 20 megs. What prog you using?

Im using premiere pro.

I just got it to about 30 mbs, which I think is reasonable.
It seems to involve a lot of guesswork though, sorting out all the compression stuff.

Are you using Sorenson Squeeze to compress? It does a damn good job of shrinking file size and maintaining quality.

I did shoot 16X9. Is there something wrong with the clip?

On my pc that clip is 16X9, are you seeing it as something else?

hmm, it looks 4x to me. Did you export it 4x3? Either that or i'm just seeing things. Can anyone else confirm this.

Nope, I definitely shot and edited it on 16X9

I exported it as a 360X288 wmv with aspect ratio set to 1.42

and thats what it looks like on my pc.
If you're seeing it as 4X3, then doesn't everything look a bit squished?

Check your export settings. I think you might of exported in 4x3. The image looked squeezed. Can you post your settings topper. I'm curious of the settngs you used to shoot this piece. Thanks

EDIT: I'm not at home right now but i'll check it with my comp when i get home. Maybe there's something wrong with this comp.

It was done in 16X9 with the 20X lens that comes with it.
Colour Gamma Cine
Colour Matrix *Cine

Shutter speed was 1/25, which makes the most noticable difference - the motion in the fighting is very blurred because of it.
I'm pretty sure the other settings were all defaults.

A lot of the way it looks was done by changing the colours in editing so that they were heavily desaturated and had higher than normal contrast.

About the export settings, I've double checked it, it was definitely widescreen, 1.42 aspect ratio.
And the clip plays correctly on my PC. *Perhaps your version of windows media player isn't up to date? *I'm using wm10

i just got home and played the clip on my computer and it came out widescreen like how it should. Maybe the other computer i was at earlier had an older windows media version. I have version 10 on mines and it works perfectly.

I just watched it and it was 4:3...

I'm running a Mac G5 and the Display is an Apple 23 in HD Cinema Display. Operating system is the latest version of OSX and I'm running WMP 9.0.0. Hope this helps.
