Not to be judgmental but on my side of the ocean apparently dvx100a and xl2 are sold without 24p option. For us "they" made a special 25p option - "frame mode" from xl1s if you like...

I'm an owner of xl1s camera. I love it. Done many films with it. But times change, people change etc. I decided to buy xl2! Great news? No.... I checked technical spec in 20 online stores in Europe. And we do not have 24p. It is soooo stuuupid...

So now I will have to buy 2 cameras? Apparently yes! One to shoot 24p (ntsc version <- have to buy it from usa of course) + one to shoot 50i (from europe). Isn't life great?!

I was sooo happy about buying the camera... Deciding for a month between xl2 and dvx. Made a choice and nothing...

I made all my reaserch on usa web sites. I never even thought that our xl2/dvx can be different besides interlaced mode...

did you know about that??

Why not just shoot 25p? You can't tell the difference and if you go to film the fix is quite straightforward.

Maybe it's because I used a lot "frame mode" in xl1s and even after lots of post + magic bullet etc. it still didn't have the motion like dvx or xl2. It was really close but I couldn't make that last step. 24p was one of the reasons I was upgrading my xl1s...

//i donno... maybe you're right....

Well frame mode is indeed different and it has a slightly different motion signature than true progressive. If, however, you shoot true progressive then I honestly don't think any human could ever discern the difference.

25p is the proper rate for PAL countries. You wouldn't want 24p, you couldn't display it on your televisions or broadcast it.

25P is the same as 24P, just one extra frame per second to make it compatible with PAL television.

The difference between 25p and 24P is so small I guarantee that you would never be able to tell the difference. The dvx and XL2 are true progressive scan, wheras the XL1 was not, there is a big difference.

Not to mention that you have extra resolution to work with in Pal land. And you can always slow down to 24P in post if you need to convert to NTSC.

DVFilm has software to do the converstion from Pal to NTSC. Here's the link.

Europe rocks, lived in Central Europe for a while and it is my destiny to get back there. Might have something to do with the women...

Seriously, I almost bought a PAL version of the XL2 for the extra resolution and would have been happy shooting 25P, I don't think I or anyone else could tell the difference.

Navitas, they're right - you haven't been cheated at all! 25p is 24p for us PAL-land users. The XL1s dropped resolution in frame mode - the XL2 or DVX certainly do not. Why would we want 24p??

Yes the difference in frame mode from the XL1s and NTSC DVX 24PA mode isnt because the speed (well not much)

Its becuase its a "fake" progressive mode were you only get 360 lines of res.

But if you count away PAL, our metric system and the celsius system I agree that Europe sucks...

If YOU say so then it must be true :) So I will get back to ordering my xl2...

However if my first film on xl2 will not be the greatest movie ever because of 25p, I will have to blame it on you guys.... ;D

Thank you for help!!!!
//donno what i would do without dvxuser.com 8)

So now you can officially clean your mouth, being a little wiser? Europe is doing fine.

What's with all the negativity?!

I never meant to say that I hate europe. I love little towns in Tuscany and great German beer...

What I meant is that europe because of its poorest then usa ecnomy is not a great country to invest in home video studio. If for example glidecam 4000Pro costs in us: $399 then in germany it costs 399 euro (one third more) - and it's not like we earn more then usa citizens. And I'm not even mentioning that in Poland this product is impossible to buy in a shop - you have to buy it online from germany or us and pay big bucks for transport...)

I don't know how it is in Netherlands but in my part of Europe it's not looking very sweet...

And in this situation I read that xl2 PAL isn't supporting 24p. I was just angry... I apologize if i hurt someone with this... I wasn't a wiser. I never wanted to be one. It was just an impulse.

//sorry for the inconvenience xray. I hope you will not take it to heart...

Hey, us Yanks have been pointing out that Europe sucks for years...it's just that we've been sending over our obnoxious, fat, jewish, loud-dmouthed citizens to tell you!
(That is satirical...as in a JOKE!) ;D

Sofa King....as I appreciate your humor, there are some that will not. You might ought to think about changing your avatar. Some have had a smiliar one, and were asked to change it. Just giving you a forewarning.
