View Full Version : Any XL2 owners interested in showing off a bit?

Since we (ok, *I*) can't participate in the monthly DVXFest, how about starting a little monthly contest of our own? (BTW, if this is a raving success it was all my idea, if it's an utter failure then talk to Dakota).
I would suggest using the same rules as the DVXFest, except of course our films would be shot on an XL2. Also, unless there's a good reason not to, I would allow shorts as long as 10min. Other than that I think the existing rules are good.
At this point there are no prizes, but hey, if there's enough interest you never know what the future might bring...
So what do you say, fellow slackers, think we can keep up with the cool kids?

Matt, i like the idea. I myself won't have time until a few months later but i love the idea. Don't know if dvxuser will let us xl2 guys have this on the 'dvx' forum but if you can somehow get everyone who owns an xl2 together and agree to the xl2fest then i'll make sure there will be some sort of prize. Let see where this post goes from here.

I'm setting up a site now (not a message board, just a personal site to host my own stuff) perhaps I could host the contest footage there if Jarred doesn't want this here.

I'm in. I guess he wasn't kidding with the short bus comment. Minivan may be more appropriate.

We will start off with a small prize for the first XL2Fest. Feb. 4th this dvd comes out, might be a good prize to kick this festival off.

Hi Matt, Good luck with your XL2 Contest.
May I have the honor of providing the prize for the best
"Show Off".
You get at least 20 entries and I am in.
Danny.

Danny, thank you so much!!!! Yes I am trying to move forward with this, although I've been busy with work work lately. Getting potential "sponsors" of prizes has actually been easier than getting folks with XL2s to "sign up" at least here and I'd like to do it on this forum. I don't think there are 20 XL2 users here... I've been contemplating running an XL2Fest on my personal site, and try to see how many folks I can put together to do this. In this case it wouldn't be monthly but rather a set event (with a deadline of say April 1st) or quarterly - something like that. However I don't want to ruffle any feathers here... Jared, if you read this let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions. I'll keep everyone posted on this over the next few days...

If you'll apply also films made with xl1s then count me in. If not you will have to wait till april for my xl2 to arrive.

Oh and by the way..when are we shooting for March? Please say March and not Feb.

Well, we XL2 users are an egalitarian bunch, unlike those fascist DVX guys so sure, you can use an XL1s. I think the deadline should be April 1st.

any specific topic...I believe the DVXfest is about love and centered around a heart shaped box of chocolates.

There was a theme? What is it? I thought I had read all the posts, but maybe not.
Anyways, I'm in, regardless.

I'm interested in showing off, dunno if I'll find the time though.
Still waiting to buy a cheap ass tripod, thinking about getting a LIBEC TH-650, it looks like it would be suitable.

I'm still a fairly new user, but I will see if I can join the fun.
I'm still checking the forums, but can anyone direct me to a post or source for some good filmic settings for the xl2 such as "in camera" imitation of certain film stocks or Magic Bullet effects?
Also, I'm looking for a good book/video similar to the DVX combo that is out.
Thanks all!
