Well Im not the hugest KSmith fan. I think he writes great dialog but I think his FILMS suck. DOGMA was soooooo laaaammmeeee. KSmith falls under the Robert Rodriguez category as in "I dont get it".

:/

Friends?

Personally, Dogma was my second-favorite Kevin Smith flick after Chasing Amy. Loved those movies. Smith alcks visual skills, but he does write great dialogue. And dialogue is one of the most underrated skills in filmmaking in my opinion. Everyone gives lip service to dialgue in the screenwriting process, but so few screenwriters and filmmakers actually take the time to really write good dialogue.

I dig Robert Rodriguez too, so maybe John and I differ a bit on filmmaker taste. But hey, we've got tennis in common (see Wimbledon thread). ;)

I'll probably pick up the Clerks DVD. It's not my favorite Kevin Smith flick, but I dug it, and hey, it launched a film career, which is what most of us are trying to do.

I like CLERKS for its wonerful dialog and of course the lowbudget impact it had for people like us and YES Chasing Amy was pretty damn good. DOGMA just let me down (Maybe I just didint get it). Perhaps he should just write? Not everyone is meant to Direct.

The one thing I didn't like about Dogma was the shit demon. Not because I was offended; I was just grossed out. Other than that, I thought the movie was funny and entertaining. And although I wasn't raised Catholic, I was raised in a religious environment, and I always had that conflict between faith and organized religion where the two don't always reconcile. So I connected with the movie on that level. Also, Alan Rickman is always brillant, and it's my favorite Chris Rock movie roll. That's not saying too much. Chris Rock is a comedic genius, but he hasn't had the right movie role yet to fit his persona.

I just think they're funny movies...not funny as in, I'm obsessed, like I've seen some KS fans...I just like the way he writes...

But I agree that some writers aren't meant to direct, and many are given the chance to recently.

I too am a HUGE Kevin Smith fan. At least he isn't having 2 different distributors selling the same movie with varied-ink chromium cases. (I hope someone gets that reference) Anyway, I'm excited, although I do hate owning a DVD, and then having to buy the special edition. *cough*King of New York *cough*

Well, you don't have to buy the special edition. Thats aid, I'll likely buy it, even though I have the original DVD. Kevin always puts out great DVDs with really interesting behind the scenes stuff. That's always great for folks like us.

Finally some Smith fans. I find his humor like a punch in the face compared to the other shit comedy being produced in the world!

I can't wait for the new commentary, I've always wanted to know how long it took to make the movie and so on...

I am not a great Kevin Smity fan either, but I laughed on some of his films.

In my opinion, his films are too childish.

I haven't seen Clerks, but I heard people say good things about it. So, I may watch it and see for myself.

All the best

Fidel.
