Shot this of my co-worker last week and though you guys would get a kick out of it. The indoor shots topped out around 25mbit/s, while some of the outdoor shots got as high as 43 mbit/s. Make sure to watch it in 1080p.

awesome man- cracked me up- good work.

what were your ptool settings?? was it a mix of 720&1080??

also- pick up an H4N-audio hurts a bit in office bat-dude response scene- I'm sure it was just a quick throw down - but that little bit of audio snapped me out of the story for a sec. Just goes to show how important audio is:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
VO sounded good though:2vrolijk_08:

Alignment1,

Thanks for the words! All the slow motion shots were in 720p60 and then retimed in Cinema tools to 24p. Everything else was at 1080p.

The audio kills me too! I'm picking up a sound recorder today. The VO was done on a $150 blue mic, but that scene is all "In-camera" audio and it makes me vomit a little bit.

I figured as much---but is this GH-13?? if so what settings??

as far as audio-- the piece has promise don't let it slip away on a couple bad audio hits- you might want to record some pick up lines (specific to that scene) on the "Blue"-and throw some post room reverb on there to make it believable. Have him watch the scene and say it exactly as he does on-cam- then just sync audio.

Or just re-shoot the scene with new audio device.

Im right there with you on the audio. I would have recorded some pick up lines, but my co-worker is in Winnipeg right now and I won't be able to do that for a week or so.

When you ask "but is this GH-13?? if so what settings"

Do you say this because it doesn't look like a High bit rate?

I really liked it - the shots and editing goes really smoothly with the deadpan brit-humor narrative :)

I am also interested in any of your GH1 settings - i.e. did you adjust color in post or did you shoot say in "vibrant" mode?...

So, what do you do with 720p in a 1080p comp? Do you just upscale it to 1080p?

Thanks Rakesh Jacob and GroOve,

I did adjust the color in post. Most shots I took the "Mids" and made them slightly more yellow, turned the Gamma down to around .95, and brought up the saturation slightly - this was all too give it more of a late 70's feel.

The "boat shots" had CGE's Old film look filter applied with a Feathered Matte Shape.

Yeah, I just upscaled the 720p shots. There were far more 1080p shots, and I honestly don't think it's too noticeable especially when considering that Slow motion shots take on a life of their own.

no not at all- it looks great- I'm just curious on what settings you used in the ptool- only because there are 4-bajillion settings that people are messing with now- since the rise of the all mighty GH-13 hack.

i.e. mjpeg vs. avchd, bitrate min-max-, etc, etc... you have to punch these details in to get a certain 'setting' I'm just curious as to what your exact formula was??:lipsrseal

The original File that came out of Final Cut was 2.6 GB which I then had Quicktime export at 1080p for a file size of around 200mb. When comparing the two there was very little difference - shockingly so. I only say this to point out that the original file looked ever so slightly better.

I know all about the GH13 settings confusion, heck I've spent hours and hours cruising through this forum for the right ones. Here is what works for me (ie Zero freezeups)

I have a SanDisk Extreme 16gb Class 10

Native 24p
Video Bitrate Adjustment FHD/SH simplified - 50,000,000
Video Bitrate Adjustment H - 50,000,000
Video Bitrate Adjustment L - 30,000,000
Overall Bitrate Adjustment - 56,000,000
Limiting Bitrate Adjustment - 60,000,000
1080p24 GOP size - 12

These were the only things I checked and altered. I didn't mess with MJpeg settings because whenever I have and then tried to shoot in AVCHD it freezes up. Hope this helps.

Well that's good. So, you really can't tell a difference in quality?

I attached Screen grabs from both videos of a "Text Heavy" scene. Hope this helps. This first one is the 2.5 gb uncompressed, the second is from the 200mb compressed.

Hmmm, those images are super small.

I uploaded a 720px width image for both, but it compressed. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

wash this shot with anamorphic lenses or did you crop in post? Details appreciated. Very creative and good storytelling, BTW. Cheers

Id agree. Fix it. It was the downfall of something oddly entertaining.

Also, get rid of the music - this thing has no legs anywhere until your within the law on copyright. Ive noticed this a lot on shorts lately being produced by DSLR users.

If this piece is just for you, friends and family or just a mess around demo for youtube then you would be far from the first to do it. If you ever intend to use this piece in a commercial sense i.e. to get work, or to submit this all over the web, then you literally open yourself up to trouble.

Great stuff! What song is that you used at the end there? I know I've heard it before. What was it, Band of Horses?

Thanks a ton! I cropped it. I've been meaning to do some anamorphic work, but for now I just love the look of the aspect ratio.

Vcassel,

The song is The funeral by Band of Horses, the other song is a cover of Human by the Vitamin String Quartet.

Noel,

I appreciate the advice, I understand what you are saying about the music, and I usually do a bunch of music composition but I didn't have the time to do anything like that for this piece which was put together in 24 hours. In terms of the sync sound portion of the video I 100% agree, it's the worst.
