Boy I almost blew it last night..............Shot a 4 pc. Nashville bluegrass group in a bar...........Brought my own Mackie mixer with XLR outputs........Set up 2 Shure 81's .....One slightly in front of the drummer 9ft. high pointing down over the guitar and bass amps and the other 9 ft. high and 10ft in front of the right main speaker and banjo player also ran a few feeds from their board into my mixer.........I ran my 25 ft. cords to my camera and got ready to shoot! Well after missing their 1st 2 songs because of feedback and terrible signal I simply unplugged the Shure 81 cords and replugged into my mixer! Ended up with Good sound but not great sound! Yes I can bring it up in pro tools but if I had simply remembered to flip the XLR switches from microphone to line I would have had very good to great sound right off the bat! Hope this will help a few shooters to not make this mistake . It's kind of pathetic because I have performed nightly as a musician for 25 years but at least I saved the shoot by acting quickly. I have simply been recording to HD ,Mini-disc or C.D. burner on live gigs and wasn't particularly worried about this set-up! DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THE XLR SWITCHES!!!!!!!!! Happy Shooting!!!! Marty
