Looking to record sound into the dvx-100 dor a low budget feature.
I've heard dif theories...some say a boom is fine, others say i need a boom and lavs into a mixer into the cam., some say a shotgun and lavs will work...
me? I just want cheapest and simplest while not sounding crappy. My audio budget is 2k at most for a 20 day shoot.
Thoughts anyone?
also...why isnt a 120 dollar field mixer from b&h like this one sufficient?
(Rolls MX54 3 Channel Battery Powered Stereo Microphone Mixer with Level and Pan Controls and Headphone Output
Mfr # MX54S • B&H # ROMX54S)

thanx much

2000 , thats incl what , post or the gear alone ?who is going to mix the sound ?some one who did it before or just one of your friends that play drums in local pab?
someone who dont play at all?
( drummers they are the best for boom ( two of my regullar boomen are),the guitar players and bass are for the mix)

do you have controll over sound in your locaitions ?(not street of course ,you dont have the badget for it )
what kind of interirs , flats with furniture without? , wearhauses? , working coffe shopes? , sweatshops , supermarket , discoteks , inside driving viacals ,bus?
metro ( sub)
outside - buissy streets , quet subberns , grave yard , over the ferry...?

do you planning more wide shotes and less covereg, or you will take the action from 20 different angels including closups on moufs ?

light - avalible light from the one bulb in the midle of the room
how many actors do you have in the scen?
there are another 20 -30 qvestions , but start with that , and we can continew

the positiv side that 40 yers ago people did moovies with one mike mostly
and looped after in the post , actuall they were better then the films i sow last year , isopposed that they tookmore care for the script :-)

As Oleg mentioned, your exact equipment needs are dictated by your production requirements. *That being said, a basic kit can cover 90% of the needs of a typical indie production. *Here's a starter kit that I'd recommend, but you can fine tune as needed.

Producing Great Sound for Digital Video by Jay Rose $35<--read this asap!
Sennheiser ME64/K6 microphone. $350
Sennheiser ME 66 mic capsule $210
Foam windscreen for ME64 - $20
Lightwave Equalizer (furry) for ME66 - $120
AT8415 shock mount - $50
Gitzo G557C boom pole - *$170
AT899 Omni lavalier mic - $200
ATU101 Wireless lav set - $500
5'/25'/50'/100' XLR cables - $80
Sony MDR7506 headphones - $100
1/8" to 1/8" 25' extension cable for headphones - $10
Moving blankets (3) - $45
RENT Sound Devices 302 mixer as needed

You can endlessly debate and substitute every single item on this list, but I've personally used it all and it's widely recommended gear.

Barry, you recommend the AT wireless over the Sennheiser g2? I am about to make a purchase, can you tell me why?
