View Full Version : GH13 freezing after 6-8 seconds of recording fire...

Just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this issue.

My GH1 repeatedly freezes after recording only 6 to 8 seconds of a barbecue fire. I was recording in AVCHD mode with "D" settings at 720P60. And most of the time my GH1 stopped recording claiming that the card could not handle the motion. Even though I was recording to a SanDisk Class 10 30Mbps 32GB card.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I am not in any way trying to knock the GH1 or the firmware hack which has worked splendidly until this shooting situation. I'm just trying to find out what I'm doing wrong.

I was recording 720p60 at 60-125 shutter speed and at 400 and 800 ISO.

Like I said, I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

- Nick

Those are pretty high settings. Believe it or not the 720p SH mode actually stresses the camera more than the 1080p FHD mode (60FPS vs 24FPS - even though it's wrapped in 60). Not surprising. You probably aren't doing anything wrong.

Interesting...I don't have a huge problem with "mud" with the factory firmware, since I shoot with a tripod at weddings (except from photographer flashes..they totally blow out the codec). However, at the wedding last weekend, there was a wall of candles behind the bride and groom during the ceremony...and I think it was the flicker from all those little fires that caused the codec to muddy up really bad. Add to that the low light, and the slow lens (Lumix 45-200...I had to shoot from the balcony like a mile away), and it was a recipe for mud. I should have took my chances with the hack!

Thanks guys. Actually, thanks to the firmware hack, I didn't experience any mud at all. Just an interruption in AVCHD shooting.

Cbrandin, I'm sure you're right, I must have been really pushing the settings with "D". I was also using a Lumix 25MM f/1.4 lens. Don't know if that might have contributed to the camera freezing. I was not using the stock lens. I'll post some footage shortly. And yes, it seems the camera was always freezing in 720p60 mode when shooting the fire, not in 1080p24. Interesting.

I'll try shooting again in 720P60 with lower settings, not D but "C" next time.

I'm having a problem where my screen freezes when i try to playback or plug into my computer. Do you know what the issue is there?
