Hi All,

I am about to buy a mic and got told/offered by a salesmann of the shop that the Beyerdynamic MCE86 beats the ME66 in a lot of tests and is even cheaper.

Has anyone got experience with the Beyerdynamic MCE86 or the ME66, or both?

What is the difference? The Beyerdynamic is not a module add on system like the K6 series, does this mean it might only be cheaper now, but in future I will have to pay more for other single mics?

Any thoughts, comments and advice much appreciated!

Thanks,

Raoul :)

What tests? Did he show you the tests? The MCE86 may be good or the salesman may just be pushing it because the stock isn't moving or they get a bigger profit. The ME66 is far from perfect, but it's a proven commodity. If you can't find unbiased folks recommending it, than stay away from a less popular mic. Can you buy both mics, test them, and return the one you don't like? that would be a reasonable option.

I have had the Beyerdynamic mic that you mention and used it on my DVX for 10 months now. I'm very satisfied with it. It does give a good sound and I have had to use it for interviews which were broadcasted on national television without any complaints :)

I have no comparison with the ME66 or other mics of this sort and I haven't seen any tests, but I am happy with my MCE86.
