Simple question I asked few times and didn't find an answer in the setting threads, what to put in the

Video Bitrate Adjustment H
Video Bitrate Adjustment L

?

According to the manual, they need to be adjusted.

For now I left them unchecked.

Thanks.

I'd like to know also. Good question.

not even testers?

Guys, please share what you put in for this values.

thanks.

I think these are for the lower quality settings in the camera. If you dont use these, you should not have to adjust them.

according to the manual they need to be adjusted to the "A,B, or C" settings recommended in ptools but if you are not gonna use them don't touch them.

Try this:
Video bitrate adjustment FHD/SH 50000000
Video bitrate adjustment H 38000000
Video bitrate adjustment L 30000000
Overall bitrate adjustment 52000000
Limiting bitrate adjustment 60000000

So, FHD and SH will be C settings and H and L will be something lower and you could use them if SH stops when you record high- detailed scene...
H and L are 720 60/50 fps modes....

Thanks for the help jobless... I wish H was in 1080. That way we could have secondary options for 1080 as well as 720!

Maybe that should be updated for the manual?

I am doing something similar to what jobless is sugesting. Since I don't have fast cards (I have a Class 4 Sandisk Extreme and a Class 6 Transcend, both have around the same speed) I dialed down the bitrates to something that would work. This are the settings working for me:

Video bitrate adjustment FHD/SH 40000000
Video bitrate adjustment H 22000000
Video bitrate adjustment L 18000000
Overall bitrate adjustment 44000000
Limiting bitrate adjustment 50000000

FHD is totally robust and mud free.
SH fails easily because of card speed if pressed. Works well for low detail footage.
H works 99% of the time, I was able to make it fail by zooming in and out fast pointing the camera at some trees and leaves.
L is totally robust, almost the same as the original SH (before the hack) but with even less mud.

What do you mean H is working 99% of the time?

I just simply don't get this H & L I guess.

Can someone please explain me in simple words what are those field, and do we need them only for 720 shooting?

firstly do you know what H(igh) & L(ow) is? no, then go to your camera and look up quality settings for video or have a read of the manual.

say you set your FHD and SD to a high bitrate and with the known issue that it may freeze due to certain scenarios you switch to H or Lwhich is set to a lower bitrate to still be able to capture it in 720 with bitrates still higher that standard 17Mb.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

At last I got it, its this H & L setting... :)

I was sure that its a codec H & L limits of some kind..

I never used them, maybe now its the time that I can use them.

Thanks!

The GH1 has 4 movie recording quality modes. FHD (which is 1080 @24p) and SH, H and L (which are 720@60p)

Before the hack H and L mode were basically useless for anything serious since they used even lower bitrates than the SH mode (SH 16mbps, H 12mbps, L 8 mbps) and thus produced more artifacts and the infamous mud.

Now, thanks to tester13, the hack allows to adjust the bitrate setting for those lower qualitiy modes.

When you hack your camera you can set the desired bitrate for each mode, but the problem is that very high bitrates can cause your camera to stop recording, specially because of SD card speed limitations (your cards can't handle that much data in such short time).

In my case, I still don't want to buy faster cards and want to use the hack with the cards I already had (Class 6 Transcend, Class 4 Sandisk Extreme which are around the same speed). I tested several settings and came up with the settings I recommended.

I left the 4 modes with this settings: FHD 40mbps, SH 40mbps, H 22mbps, L 18mbps.

FHD works 100% of the time and renders beautiful mud free 1080.

SH works only if the scene has low detail, makes the camera stop easily if shooting high detail greens even if panning slowly.

H works 99% of the time even in highly detailed scenes and is the mode I intend to use for 720p.

L works 100% of the time and can be usefull in the rare cases H fails. (this hacked L setting is almost the same as the original unhacked SH setting, only a little higher bitrate to make it more artifact free)

Hope this clears it all up.

since I am using the new ptool 3.37d and he FHD SH patch appears and have filled that up for my GH1, would that work the same for my GF1?

here is my setting:
video bitrate adjustment FHD/SH simplified: 50000000
video bitrate adjusutment H: 38000000
video bitrate adjustment L: 22000000
overall bitrate adjustment: 52000000
limited bitrate adjustment: 60000000

with these settings, FHD get the highest bitrates, and SH is always lower than FHD, though FHD/SH simplified setting is sure to work similarly for both FHD and SH.
I think it is because of the difference of 1080 size and 720 size.

how about this? :
video bitrate adjustment FHD/SH simplified: 50000000
video bitrate adjusutment H: 56000000 <--larger than 50000000
video bitrate adjustment L: 38000000
overall bitrate adjustment: 58000000
limited bitrate adjustment: 66000000

I will try.
