View Full Version : Exposure bracketing expansion - 0,-3EV,+3EV anyone?

Cheers community!

There have been some extraordinary efforts here unlocking the video capabilities of the GH1 with notable success! These are praisable. :dankk2:

In this case I wonder if there was similar interest in raising the photographic experience too.

As popular as HDR has become (in most cases because of sensor/camera limitations) I was wondering if anyone other than me was interested in having shorter brackets (ex: just 3 captures) with higher ranges such as:
0,-3EV,+3EV.

As it is right now the largest range is -2EV, +2EV and you need 7 brackets at 2/3EV apart. This is close to usable for landscaping (even though the captures are more than 2s apart) but unsuitable even for slow moving subjects. :(

Anyone else looking for this?

Thanks for looking and keep up the great work! :)

Please, yes. This would be fantastic.

Anyone else?
I might be wrong but at first sight, this looks like an easy hack...

Would certainly be interested - albeit on the G1 and G2 aswell :)

Would be awesome if it could happen!

Please read development thread.
It has explanation why it is not an easy hack.
It'll be easy in case of firmware had two values - frame numbers and EV step.
But firmware do not have such values stored directly.
I know how to set frame numbers for any selected mode.
But EV step is hard coded and buried inside low level things.

Vitaliy, is it possible to have camera release shutter automatically for the full auto-bracketing sequence instead of waiting for manual shutter release?

From someone that knows little about it, it seemed like an easy hack...A shame then... :(

A shame - this would have been a great upgrade to the camera. Please keep an eye out for these buried values while you're digging up other things!

Would it be possible to set a different frame number for the +2-2 range in autobracketing? Instead of 7 exposures, just do 3?(+2,0,-2) This would drastically reduce the amount of time to create a HDR, especially useful with non-static subjects. Would it be possible to truncate the other 4 exposures?
