Hi all,
Anybody ever use the Polecat windscreen on a hypercardioid mic? It fits over a standard foam windscreen and is supposedly comparable in performance to the Rycote softie. Opinions?
Thanks.

It works ALMOST as well as a Rycote softie. I've actually done extensive testing with the two, and found the Rycote softie to offer a little better wind protection. At $69 for the pole cat and $23 for a generic wind screen. It is cheaper than the Softie, which lists at $135 or $145 depending on what mic it's for.
It's a nice, cheaper alternative if you are squeezing as much as you can out of every penny.

Good to know--thanks. The reason I'm considering it is not so much because of the cost savings, but because it is slimmer. The Rycote looks almost as big as the camera! It's imposing. And it seems more likely to be visible in the picture at wide angle focal lengths. The Polecat seems like a simpler alternative to putting a Rycote softie on a diet.
