I'm looking to purchase a dvx100a and am wondering how many additional purchases I have to make for it before I can start making some movies. Obviously I need a mic, but do I need an external mixer or does the 100a have that covered?
Thanks.

You probably don't need a mixer to start. The DVX100 preamps are pretty good, so if you're only using one or two mics at a time--the DVX100 has you covered.

yes.. to make movies all you need is a shotgun, a boom, and some cable.

Does a shotgun pickup in stereo or do I need to plug 2 mics in? Is this even possible? Would it be better to get a separate recording device that has a left and right mic jack and add/sync the sound to the footage in post?

Most shotguns are mono--there's not usually much of a reason to record dialogue in stereo. Later in post, you can pan the single dialogue channel so it plays on the left and right channels. A separate recording device is also not necessary--the DVX100 has a great sound subsystem. Just start with a good mic, a boom pole, shockmount, windjammer, and a cable.

the booman not nessery -its cost you money ,transportaition and food :-)
why not to do silent or slepstick -much ,much cheaper :-)
