Panasonic posted this on Facebook. What I found amusing was the commercial was shot with Canon DSLRs.

LOL. To their credit, watching the BTS it looked like the awesome Camera to Camera rig was with the G2, and a fair portion of the action material.

Silly, still.

I just watched the actual commercial, and I thought that it was, well, pretty annoying. Weird cuts in the music, snapshot freeze-frames...

"Panasonic, because brilliant pictures matter." End commercial line... really? But they chose Canon to shoot it... damn, tomorrow is hatchet day for my 7D and even Panasonic has more faith in a Canon?

LOL!

Uh... yeah, clearly they don't know about the hack... brilliant pictures matter, but stupid decisions apparently don't. The Olympus Pen (or whatever) commercial that says "this commercial was even shot with one" is the antithesis of this. Clue-less panny... sends a bad "pro-tools vs. toys" message.

OT Rant:

I like the dude in the trucker hat... I've always wanted to spoof the whole "set COSTUME wardrobe of CREW"... let me put it to you this way... for those who don't know... IF you want to be "the man" on set... get a $300 pair of jeans... then accessorize that with the worst sh*t you can find... especially stuff like trucker-hats and/or really crap t-shirts... if you want to be 'chic' crew then get a high-end t-shirt that looks ordinary until closer inspection. The whole point is to look thrown together even though you spent an hour trimming that 2-day beard...

The camera on the camera rig was a GoProHD.

Can´t say how much I hate hand held roller coaster stuff like that.

Frank

P.S. and yeah, that GoProHD holds up nice to the Canon material.

That's a good one.

I see where you guys are coming from, but I thought they had a pretty cool little rig with the camera attached to the other camera. Reminds me a bit of the Pi snori-cam rig, but this time it is focusing on an object the actor can hold. Technically, you could have any object be the center of attention with that type of shot: a gun, a briefcase, a magic lamp, or some type of MacGuffin that the hero is trying to keep from the villains.

Also, I must be the only person on the planet that liked Crank and Crank 2. I'll give these guys credit, 2-day beard or not, they are using digital cameras (Canon XH-A1, RED ONE) for Hollywood produced films. I'm sure they'll continue to do so and that is a good thing in the long run.

Of course, it would've been good if they at least used a GH-1 for some shots, as this G2 seems to only shoot in 720p. Maybe the codec on the GH-1 couldn't hold up to all that movement?
