I posted this in the wrong thread, sorry for that (the forum is getting big for a beginner!) , so i post it here again...

Hi, i'm new from France and i wanted to tell you that that's a very interesting project, i was wondering since a long time if somebody would hack the LUMIX G serie (like what happened with the CANON powershot models for example) and YOU are doing it! Great, i know nothing about programming but i just can maybe suggest you ( i don't know if it's the right way to do it here?) to try to improve two things on the G Lumix serie with manual lenses:

1) the activation of the magnified zoom focusing function is cumbersome because you cuurently need to press TWO buttons, so implementing in the hacking tool the ability to assign for example this function to the Function (Fn) button would be a great improvement when focusing manually with this zoom.

2) this zoom has several ratio increments to increase the magnification of the focusing area, but with some long focal lenses, some added lower increments (eg increments corresponding to lower magnification focusing aid) would be great because the minimum increment currently implemented is sometimes TOO MAGNIFIED and the focusing is then difficult cause the image jitters too much!

If you can consider a way to implement this i think many users of manual lenses (for photography or video!) on G series will appreciate!

Good luck in your research and hacking work, guys :o)

On the GF1, Manual Focus Assist is triggered by a single click on the thumbwheel. Panasonic likely chose this quick focus assist switch to complement the GF1's largely automatic operation. (It lacks much of the GH1's manual video controls.) But I'd definitely choose the thumbwheel focus assist if it was an option on the GH1.
